100%. It’s like pedo St keeping their Interim Coach that the players love as a “Campbell Helper.” Gotta believe players run to that Interim Coach with their complaints like playing time. Could be a mess.
Yea, that’s an interesting dynamic for old Matty boy.

IMHO his unwavering loyalty & desire to show everyone how he’s developed ‘guys’ is about to spend a **** load on a bunch of ISU guys for one season.

At the same time, his pedo state remains are about to be passed over or told how things are now. And as you pointed out, the assistant coach is still there that they’ll all run to.

Happy valley may not be so happy anymore.

If we win more than 6 games there ought to be a lot of positive press around the rebuild. Could be the best thing that happens.

But JP’s guy is good for awhile either way. If we have a couple of losing seasons he’s got a lot of cover - even if he did have a part in running these guys off as some people have implied.
He will have three years. If we haven’t reached 6-6 by Year 3 then there will need to be a move. I do think Rogers should be able to get us back to that level.

I'm curious if the, announce your new coach while your old coach is talking the players, might have backfired?

JP knew he’d take the top guys if he could…

Pedo states recruiting class of 2 was well reported.

He probably leaked Matt’s interviewing as well.
He tried to break the loyalty they had to MC.

It was a calculated move to try and save as much as he could for us. That said, it was always with risk.

Bruce was 18-24 in conference in his career at Iowa State.

And some people wanted him fired for "only" winning 8 games three years in a row.
I do not remember anyone complaining about Bruce. His teams were the best Iowa State squads I have ever watched .The Big 8 was the premier conference in the nation during his tenure in Ames. 4 wins was meaningful in the 7 game conference schedule. One of Bruce's 8-3 seasons included losses to Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Colorado. Oklahoma finished that year ranked #1 in the country and claimed the national title. Nebraska finished that year ranked #2 in the country, and Colorado was ranked #3 in the country for most of the year, and finished the season in the Top 10. MISSOURI was also no slouch and was another great rivalry. Kellen Winslow was a famous player for Mizzou in that era and played in a great game in Ames.
Oklahoma was the nation's best program back then. Coach Bruce had the Clones tied or down 7 -0 at half in Ames. Oklahoma had the 3 Selmon brothers on the Dline, and 3 running backs who had significant NFL careers, besides a full compliment of great players. The Selmons were freak athletes and strong as mules. The fullback was another nasty dude out of central casting..Leon Crosswhite? Our boys never backed down and lost 20 -0. In those days the Sooner wishbone offense would regularly beat teams with 56 -0 type margins. Like a freight train. UNSTOPPABLE for a few years. Switzer had it going down there- similiar to the Saban era at Alabama.

Why should they have any loyalty if tons of fans hate them for leaving. It's a really bad look for the fan base. I'm not saying fans need to cheer for them, but bad mouthing them on the way out is a really bad look.

If any recruits or families read this board, why would they want to come to Iowa State. Sure the fans are passionate but as soon as you do something else, we'll spit all over them on their way out.

It's hopefully just message board minority, but unfortunately the message board minority is what everyone can see. It's pathetic.
I'm not advocating for anyone to be tagging or dm'ing any player or player's family members, but if they think our fan base is bad, boy do I have news for you if that player goes to a bigger time program.

CF is childs play compared to a site like TexAgs....those people are psychotic

Prior to the mass player defections after Campbell left, the WR position group was the least of my worries - I didn't care if all of them transferred. That receiving corps led to us losing that Colorado game. Should have been up 14-0 on those first couple of drives had they been able to catch a well-placed ball. Game would have been over, imho, if those guys hadn't all decided to suck. I also believe those drops had a huge impact on Rocco's confidence and shaky play the rest of the game (although he had MAJOR blunders as well).
I will root for Overby since he decided to stay, and hope he can take a major step forward under the new staff - but I am fine with Sowell not coming back - I honestly believe it won't be hard to recruit talent well above the WRs that are leaving.
Agreed....our wr room was honestly pathetic....Rocco had his struggles this season but it seemed like whenever he was actually on our receivers couldn't catch a damn thing...ironically their best game collectively was in a down pour across the world

I hope it changes direction soon. Two Guys is my "brainless" podcast 2x per week. I can listen while I'm driving and check/in out without using too many brain cells. It's informative and I personally think Hassel is a pretty funny person. I relate much more to his approach to humor than Williams, aside from the whole "hawkeye thing." But if this kind of stuff is going to be how it is, then I'll just find something else to fill my drive home.
I am not afraid to admit that I listen to Two Guys more for Hassel than CW....yeah Hassel is a Hawk but he's also just genuinely funny.

Who gives a ****, he left.

Time to move on.

I could care less if he ever wins another game.

I am an ISU fan, not a Pedo St fan. I didnt cheer for Gable at Iowa, I dont cheer for Cael at Pedo St. I didnt cheer for cheesedick at Auburn, etc etc.

He left because ISU wasnt good enough for him. Period. Thanks for what he did here, but piss off from there.

You are on here crying because we arent all on our knees with our mouths open for Campbell while crying that Rogers will never be as good.

You want us to cry over Campbell, and hate on Rogers. You refuse to even give Rogers a chance, while continuing to simp for Campbell. **** Campbell, he left. I am here to cheer for those that are here, not those that left. I am here to hope and cheer for Rogers, and the players coming or staying at ISU. I could care less about any other program, whether they have our old players or coaches or not.

If you are so in love with Campbell maybe you should go over and praise him all day on the Pedo St board instead of here. Here at ISU it is time to get on the Rogers train. Period.
My personal take is that I'm on the Rogers train and actually excited to see what he can bring to the table. I am also very appreciative of what Campbell did here. I personally don't wish any bad luck onto him but I'm also not going to root for Penn State, because why would I? Iowa State is my school.

I know this is going to sound super weird to say but if Campbell died tomorrow, would our fans look back on his legacy as a "traitor" or be thankful for what he did here?

It's actually interesting looking back at Wazzu after Leach left for Mississippi State....yeah they had fans that were upset, but that was also well before the PAC 12 officially collapsed and before they were really on the outs of CFB. A lot of their fans look back fondly on the Leach era in Pullman. And now that Leach has passed away, their fans have even more admiration for what he did there.

One thing that worries me with Rogers in player retention. One nice thing about Campbell is that kids love playing for him and we had a very low number of transfers every year, and we didn't have a lot of kids flip to other schools. There were a few every year but that is a low number. Rogers had 14 decommits this year, before he accepted the ISU job. I'm not gonna read too much into that for the time being, but it is something that caught my eye.

I'm very pissed at Campbell, as I've stated. It's not because he made a financial / business decision. It's not because he wants to go to a top program and win a NC. That is all very rational and I totally get it. If someone offered me a job tomorrow that was 2-3x my salary and a job I kind of wanted anyway, I'd be silly not to take it.

What I'm pissed about is all the crap about being our Bill Snyder or Ferentz. All the stuff about how he was "different."

Coaches are humans and say things in the moment that may look silly in the future. I'm sure Campbell genuinely loved his time at ISU; I don't doubt that. But you can't talk for 10 years about how you want to build a legacy / longevity at a place and then bolt for another program without damaging said legacy.

It's asking far too much, but I'd be less pissed if he just came out and said "I love Iowa State, I'm grateful for what they did for my career and my family. But my dream has always been to coach at a few select schools with the opportunity to win a NC. I'm leaving to pursue that dream."

Instead he came out with "This was such a hard decision to leave a place we loved so much. I need to be closer to family, etc etc." Just come out and say the truth. Stop trying to have it both ways. You saw a chance for more money and to win a NC so you took it. Good on you, but I no longer hold you in high esteem because that directly contradicts everything you've said for the past 10 years.

I thought he truly was different. He's not. I held him in much higher regard than a lot of modern coaches. Now, he's just another one in a long list.
I mean did Campbell himself ever say he was a forever Cyclone (aka Snyder/Ferentz)? Maybe I'm just misremembering but did he ever say he was "different"? Did he also not build a legacy at Iowa State? He got Iowa State to levels we have never even come close to seeing.

probably... just like Chizik. And just like Chizik... if he does win a natty there, it will likely not have much to do with Matt, but he'll get all the credit.
Matt is hell of a lot better of a coach than Chizik c'mon lets not be delusional. It's much more impressive when you can succeed at a "lesser" program like Iowa State than succeeding at bigger programs like Auburn.....and Gene 100% "won" that natty all due to Cam

I think it’s unfair to jump on Rogers this early and given the circumstances, but the fact that he has retained virtually no one is something to keep an eye on.

If he brings in a bunch more FBS and G5 guys in the portal the questions are going to get even louder.

Fall 1975 there was a lot of grumbling. I was attending Iowa State. Lots of fans unhappy with Earle Bruce’s third straight 4-7 season. But the team was improving even though the 4-7 record wasn’t an improvement. But the Cyclones were rewarded the next year with an 8-3 record that included the Luther Blue kick return against Nebraska in that epic win.
