Instead of many separate signing threads I figured I create one that could discuss any from here out.

As a Bulls fan I went out to see that they are trying to do. I heard they were going after Billups (signed with Clippers) Brandon Roy (signed with Minn).

I heard they may match Houston offer to Asik which I pray to god they don't. Paying a backup center 8 million a year is a joke. I rather see the bulls used that money to lock up Taj "The Beast" Gibson.

Other players the Bulls are looking at are Hinrich, Jerrad Bayless, and even Derek Fisher's name has been discussed. Safe to say I'm not impressed with the Bulls front office. Paxson and Forman have been a joke they are lucky that Chicago won the lottery to get Rose.

Yes that's true but just trying to save the number of nba threads because if there is something CF hate more gaming threads is NBA threads.
I'm just a little bitter from you eliminating me in mafia. :jimlad: That is if you are the vig.

Bulls front office pisses me off.
They have just been using patch jobs to fill their needs since drafting Rose.
After drafting Teague, why in the hell would you wanna sign another point guard?

My opinion:
Sign and trade Asik to Houston. Get Scola or Kevin Martin and maybe a pick back.
Amnesty Boozer.
If they get Martin in the sign and trade go get another post for cheap to replace Boozer.

I think you, I and every Bulls fan want this to happen but from everything I've read this won't be happening at least this year.

I'm on the fence as a Bulls fan, we are talking about the team that tied for best record in the league but I'd like to see them bring in someone else who can score, preferably a guard, IMO they still miss a spark scorer like Ben Gordon. I'd love to keep Asik but guys like that are going to casualites until Boozers contract gets unloaded.

But this upcoming year we will be without Rose and Deng for a significant period. Maybe they are staying pat and maybe go big next year although I have no idea who the big name FA will be next year. We are probably looking at finishing between 6-8 in the East next season.

That kind of leads to why I'm on the fence, is it worth going out and spending money this year ? Or is what we have (when healthy) good enough to compete as long as the rest of the group can just get them into the playoffs? Or should they just call next season a wash and look to be a healthy contender in '14?

Really liking what Minnesota has done this offseason!
We may sneak into the playoffs next year. Hoping Rubio can be back at 100%!

I'm a Bulls fan and I want to ask everyone why they think they Bulls can get a big free agent signing this season with no cap room? They are pushing the limit of paying luxury tax already and people need to do some research on this new CBA rules because for the 13-14 season the luxury tax becomes more punitivite and is $1.50 for every $1 over not just dollar for dollar like it would be this season. For a team without it's best player for most of this coming season as well as the possibility that Deng may start the year on the sideline too what can they really do? There aren't many impact guys this year that are willing to sign for the exceptions. They'll need to hope they can get some veteran minimum guys that play well for not just to keep the ship afloat.

You also may want to check out team salary situations: NBA Salaries | HOOPSWORLD | Basketball News & NBA Rumors Miami may have got an aging Ray Allen but if you look at their future cap space the Big 3 will take up about $62 mil of their payroll starting in 2014 and about $66 mil in 2015. This year you pay luxury tax on anything over $70 mil so add in the progressive luxury tax rules and Miami is going to be paying some heavy luxury tax in the upcoming years if they don't shed some payroll. They are probably going to pay around $12 mil or more of it this year and possibly up to $30 mil next season. If you keep winning titles I guess it may generate enough revenue to cover it but most teams probably could not afford to go that deep into luxury tax.

I hope they don't match Asik's offer either as the 3rd year is for $15 mil which is a lot of money to be paying a backup center and would be a cap killer as well. They also need to extend Gibson's contract which likely will not be cheap either. My guess is the Bulls will use the amnesty clause on Boozer after this season to clear some cap room to sign or acquire another big time player to play next to Rose. As for this season they just don't have much of a reason to spend over the cap. What they really need to do is find a taker for 1 of the contracts of Boozer, Deng, or Noah to free up some cap space and make next offseason the one they add some significant signings with a deeper free agent pool.

I used to think that the new luxery tax penalties would make owners start shedding payroll but I no longer think that. The Lakers are way over the tax and just gave Nash a giant contract. The Nets are doing all they can to get their own "super team" which if they get Howard and sign him to a contract would certainly put them well over the luxery tax line. Miami isn't showing any signs of being concerned about paying additional tax.

I'll be curious to see if OKC will take this same approach to keep their team together or if they'll let either Harden or Ibaka walk. They're a smaller market so it will be a good test case.

As for the Bulls, I think they'll basically stand pat this year and then make a run for a FA next off season and amnestying Boozer to make room.

From what I gather about the new bargaining agreement is the taxes are doubled but if a owner has to money to be able to with stand the tax he is going to continue to spend. So just like in every other sport big markets will continue to rule the game.
