***Official NBA offseason thread***

The Nets new owner will pay luxury tax, he is loaded. Jerry Reinsdorf who owns the Bulls is one that doesn't like to pay it unless they have a contender on the floor and this year they won't with Rose rehabbing. I think once teams start having to pay that progressive tax you'll see some of these bigger market teams that start to lose money looking to shed salary. OKC is not considered a big market so I think it's a real possibility they trade either Harden or Ibaka by next season because they likely will not be able to afford to keep both.

I'm sick of the "super teams" too but with the new CBA I think we are going to see some teams regretting trying to put them together once they start going in the red because of the luxury tax which is the whole reason they put it in place to cut down on owners over-spending beyond their means. If you can win a championship or 2 before you have to blow up your roster it's worth it but if you have a handful of teams well over the luxury tax threshold eventually some of them will have to regroup and blow up the team in order to build a team that can win a title.

The closest thing to a real "super team" outside of Miami is the one OKC built through the draft.

All these other combos or organizations are flawed and teams like LA Lakers, Chicago (if Rose ever comes back near 80% even) and San Antonio will be better teams still despite having less splash by not landing any Superfriends mega-squads.

LeBron-Wade-Bosh is such a better 1-3 punch than any of the other combos. And OKC's draft created Durant-Westbrook-Harden-Ibaka is the best 1-4 punch. You could argue Allen makes Miami a Big 4 because he's going to be standing around wide open, he'll be Super Kerr/Armstrong. And at some point OKC will have to pay up for their draft studs but they'll be in a position of power for a while.

Howard is an egomaniac and a potential cancer despite maybe being the second or third most skilled player on the planet. The Knicks are the most poorly ran franchise in sports. I see it as a two team power struggle now with a handful of teams like SA, Lakers, Clippers and Bulls having a chance to move up in the next year or two with a move or player development. I'll be shocked of NYN or Brooklyn rapidly improve into contenders, especially NYN.

Agreed. It just seems like he always wants to please everyone and can't make a decision. He's more worried about his image, and it's backfired on him. He just needs to make a call and stick to it.
 
Got a couple things/rumors.

Miami Heat- Rashard Lewis met with team

Los Angeles Lakers- Grant Hill deal not done yet.

New York Knicks- Steve Novak signs 4 year deal for 15 million dollars.

Knicks and Heat trying to get Marcus Camby.

Bulls and Suns interested in Michael Redd.

Kings, Pacers, Spurs, Jazz, and Mavericks are all interested in Chris Kaman.

Aaron Gray goes to Toronto.

Kirk Hinrich to Bulls.

Ryan Anderson traded to Hornets for Gustavo Ayon who is going to Orlando.

Bulls not resigning CJ Watson. Will waive or trade him.

Andrew Bynum won't extend his contract for sure if traded to Orlando. Rockets, Mavericks, and Cavaliers would be front runners for him if he tests free agency.

Utah Jazz buy out Raja Bell's contract.

Jason Thompson signs with Kings for 6 million a year.

Update on the Howard trade:
The structured trade would send Dwight Howard, Jason Richardson, and Earl Clark to the Nets. Brook Lopez, Damion James, Shelden Williams, Luke Walton, and 3 or 4 first round picks to the Magic. Kris Humphries and a draft pick to the Cavaliers.

Pacers will match Roy Hibbert's offer from Blazers.
 
Not liking these stories coming out about Kevin Love not being happy with the Timberwolves off-season moves. I think that team had a decent shot to make the playoffs last season if Rubio hadn't gotten hurt, so it sucks to hear he's getting impatient. Hopefully Brandon Roy can get somewhat back to his old form and help push this team over the top, because it would suck to lose the young core they've built up.

I think this is a huge mistake. Watson was a great back up. Didn't he average 20ppg in the games that Rose was out? No way Hinrich replicates that.

As for this season, I agree that they should just stand pat. I'm just really frustrated that they have pretty much stood pat the last two seasons. :mad:

Well it's a good thing Minnesota wasn't stupid enough to not offer Love a max contract and instead signed him to a four year deal with a three year opt out clause...oh wait. Love will be a Laker in two years.

OKC is going to have to make a decision on Harden pretty soon. He will get max offers if he hits the market next summer. Signing him to anywhere near a max deal will put OKC over the cap for many years to come, they have to be sure that Harden is a guy you can win a title with. Westbrook and Durant are superstars, there's no question about those two, but I think the jury is still out on Harden.

I was a big fan of Watson until this playoffs.

If Watson plays the same way he did during Rose's regular season injuries they would have smoked Philly in 5 or 6 even without Rose and given Boston a series assuming Noah came back healthy. They got practically nothing out of Watson/Lucas in the playoffs and they got a ton from them in the regular season.
 
Rockets trade.

The Rockets agree to sign-and-trade Marcus Camby to the Knicks for Toney Douglas, Josh Harrellson, Jerome Jordan, and 2014 & 2015 2nd round picks.
 
So the Rockets now have:
Lowry, Dragic, Lin, and Douglas at PG
Royce, TJ, Scola, Patterson, Morris, Motiejunas, Leuer, and Harrellson at PF.
