Wish I was, sorry, but just tired of hearing you guys slam the kids that play at UNI. Hope they don't read this board and find out how bad of a team they are. Obviously those players aren't good enough to play for ISU or Iowa(or they would have recruited them, right?), but they play hard, work their a**es off and believe in a system of basketball that rewards the team not the individual. Sorry that it's ugly and hard for you to watch, but I'll take these type of kids and winning "weak" conference championships and NCAA tourney games anyday. I know it must really suck to lose to these guys year in and year out, but give some credit where credit is due.
You act like ISU has never won a conference championship, an NCAA tourney game, and UNI always beats ISU. If you do believe that, check your history.

Hi everyone, new here and hope to start posting regularly when time permits. Anyway, hate to make my first post on such a down note but hey, gotta start somewhere. I'll start with the game:

In all honesty, I haven't seen the Cyclone in action since tonight, and usually don't until about this time, as my work/school schedule does not allow me any time for tickets to games, and the Cyclones never play on TV, but what I saw tonight is what I guess I expected to start the year. I was shocked to find out they were 6-0 and playing really well, so I was excited to see them for the first time, but man we looked terrible. Diante looked like he hadn't changed much, though his first half had me a little excited, and we were just flat all around. I give UNI a lot of credit too, as their defense was probably the first real tough physical defense we played, and Iowa State wasn't sure what to do with it. Hopefully FH will get his guys to learn to play physical more as the year goes on, because we'll be in big trouble if we don't.

The broadcast of the game is what I really had a huge problem with. Holy cow man my eyes were hurting after the game because of the brightness of the camera. Really, is that the best you can do in today's age. I thought the football game was bad, but man this was 1000 times worse. The announcers were horrible too. I had to watch the Mich St. Duke game on ESPN just to restore my faith in TV again...

To the UNI fans holding up the stupid "I have more coaching experience than Hoiberg" sign: Really? for a fan base that claims to be classy, I don't expect to be signs like that ever. And it wasn't just one, because I saw it all over the place. Not only is that classless, but that has to be the dumbest form of trashtalk I've ever heard of since the famous "high school dropout" chant made by Nebraska's fans to Jamaal Tinsley. Newsflash guys, Hoiberg had 6 more game experience prior to this game than you'll ever have in your life, not to mention he was a big-8 star and made it to the NBA. Give me a break.

Though I did harp on those fans, I do want to say that I have respect for UNI's athletics succeed, and I always hope they succeed, heck I even have the UNI Kansas game dvr'd on my DTV and still watch it from time to time. I think the calling out of UNI's style of play though is a bit much on here. It's almost like some of you think it's illegal. The fact is it's not, and with what little UNI has to work with, Jacobsen does a wonderful job getting his team to play the only style of basketball that allows them to succeed. They definitely play harder defense then we do, and maybe that's why they got more calls than us. As boring as the style they play is, it's effictive and it wins ball games. Heck if we could win conference titles and 30 games a year playing ugly basketball than sign me up. Obviously our "legit" play don't give us any postseason play, period.

Anyway, that's my thoughts, hopefully I can become more of a regular so I don't have to write a book every time I post.

How many of those studs from uni have ever played in the NBA..... Oh that's Right nobody. Your luck has run out. We have an up and coming football team and basketball team. You bball team is going down the crapper and your football is a joke

Not really a strong arguement on why ISU can't beat UNI. If memory serves, you have a 1 game winning streak against that crappy Div IAA team that statistically(including serveral untimely turnovers) moved up and down the field on your up and coming football team and has been "lucky" enough to win 4 of 6 on the court. Oh yeah, and my dad can beat up your dad ;)

Its more like the ISU fans on here that are acting like this is the first time ISU has lost to UNI, or as if UNI is and has been an "inferior program"...and that winning conference championships dont matter, nor do tourney wins...just sayin.

Re: glad i didn't sip too much kool-aid

I should have been more clear - the old ineffective style sucked and lost games. That was the same thing that happened tonight. Old DG + old style = old result (loss).

You were clear. I just wanted to use the caps lock. I like to work it in once after a loss. Your post was accurate and harmless, so I used that for the opportunity.

Trust me, I have watched and supported ISU basketball for many years, but some people on this board have a difficult time accepting the fact that you don't have to have "NBA Studs" to win basketball games(see above photo). By demeaning the kids and style of play at UNI, it not only makes them come across as sore losers but completely ignorant as well.

haha this made me laugh. If anybody loves their credits more than anything, its you. I just keep thinking of that time when your credits mysteriously disappeared for a little while and you had a heart attack over where they went and when you were getting them back. :biglaugh::wink:

Good for you, sir! You are somebody.

Class A contracts = roughly $850/month
Class AA contracts = roughly $1250/month
So basically, not even close to "a few hundred" large.

Most people make more than that in a month. I make more than that and I get paid like crap.

Did Matt P just create a new user name?

IMO, Matt P. hates UNI more than most of the Cyclone fans having their freakish meltdowns tonight do. I remember before last season he was calling UNI completely overrated.

This looked like the 6th real game with an almost entirely new team that is still learning to play together. UNI slowed it down, and I guess it's not terribly surprising that our guys struggled a bit.

Hopefully they can take some lessons from this one.

I don't think UNI is the better team by any means, but they've got a good coach, and knew what they needed to do, and how to do it to give themselves a chance to stay in the game.

We're going to have some of these this year, but I believe the players will learn from each and move on.

It's not like we should wake up and go "oh no....now we won't go undefeated"! This was our first true road test against a motivated(fired their Greg/beat their Greg) experienced foe......already thin roster and one stayed home.....early foul trouble.......couldn't throw it in the ocean.........and yet we were in it until the end?! Unless CFH turns the rest of the season into some Dr. Phil focus group like our previous coach.......we'll be fine.

Shot poorly, rebounded poorly, played to UNI's strengths, refs called a lot of weak fouls. Sums it up.

No reason to get too down. On the road against a well coached team early in the season.

THIS.....Plus, I'm pretty encouraged by the fact that absolutely nothing went our way last night and we still managed to make it a game. A loss is never fun....but this one wasn't as terrible as some here believe.

I'm concerned about the lack of a physical presence in the post. JVB is a nice option at the offensive end, shooting 3s and taking the other team's big out of the paint, but he is Charmin soft. ISU looks like a team that will live and die by the jump shot this season. If I had to guess at a win total, I suppose I'd put them at about 16 or 17. Tough to beat at home, but hopeless on the road if they don't bring their jumpers with them.

We shot a horrible percentage last night, I give UNI some credit for that but alot of it comes down to focus and shot selection. Mostly focus though tonight.

This game went about as expected

And i don't think that is a bad thing. Maybe a reality check. Shots just were not falling and some of the most bizarre officiating i have seen. The worst was the possession where Kujoa ghytmffdrwe obviously took 4 extra steps and at the same time, for reasons unknown, a Panther grabs the rim and hangs on it.
