Here nor there
We got crushed on the boards
we sucked from the FT line
transition defense was a sieve. (granted, Iowa is an excellent transition offense team)

That's how we didn't play very well.
Yep, a lot of good teaching moments for this new team. It is easy to forget that we lost 6 of our top 8 from last year and replaced them with 3 freshmen, a couple average JUCOs recruits, and a transfer from Marshall (plus an inexperienced Soph). As we have seen these past two games, this team is still developing.

What impresses me the most about this team is end of the game execution. We used to chuck threes if we are down by 5 at 2 minutes to go. Instead they make smart baskets regardless if they are one, two, or threes. It really reminds me of how KU plays. I don't think we reached full potential with what this team can really do. If they pick up their lazy transition D, they would be unstoppable.

as somebody pointed out, the result of #2 bolstered #1

We also didn't go hard on the offensive boards as I think we were trying to limit their transition.

I also think we were hoping to up fake and drive tonight rather than bombing from three (seemed hesitant to take the open three compared to normal) but Iowa wasn't biting .

Great game all around. Huge game for Niang just abusing the Frankenstein monster, and I loved Melvin's play. Hogue was huge on the glass and I thought the young guards were pretty good.

I tip my hat to that goon White - I'm gonna love hating him for the next couple of years. We are the better team, but really let them beat us in transition a lot and we seemed pretty loose with the ball, and didn't shoot all that well from the line or from three.

I think Iowa is Top25 material, but we're better overall. They should finish in the top 4-5 in the BigTen I think. I like our guys better.

One odd thing that bugged me, and I wondered if anyone thought this. In listening to the broadcast and the way Gettys called that game, you NEVER would have guessed that we were undefeated and ranked higher than Iowa. They were complimentary of Hilton and Fred, but my wife even asked me at one point with about 6-8 minutes left, "Isn't Iowa State ranked? These guys sure like Iowa an awful lot." Thought that was odd the way they turned around in the last minute and half, all Rah-Rah Cyclones.

Disclaimer: I was at the game and not listening.

But some commentators seem to be "on the side" of the team that's performing better, especially if the teams are otherwise evenly matched. For most of the game, that team was unquestionably Iowa.

I thought Fran really hurt himself by playing guys that really did not need to be getting minutes. Won't mention names, but there were guys that played a lot that hurt Iowa. Fran, while a very good coach, out thinks himself sometimes.

He also has got to get his guys to stop fouling. Iowa reaches, grabs, hacks and sets a ton of illegal screens and it really really hurts them down the stretch in road games. They have to clean that up and play about 3 less guys. 3 or 4 guys for Iowa that have no business playing on that team.

I'm pretty sure you just described a bad coach, not a good one.

Woodbury getting matched up on Niang was a mistake on Fran. Woodbury does not move well, and it is hard anyways for A 7'1 player to chase after a 6'7 guy.

Woodbury should have been kept in the paint at all times. He would have had a much bigger impact there. When you get him out in space, he is screwed.

I also would like to say that some Iowa players need to get some damn sun. There skin could have lit up that court better than our fluorescent lighting!

Also. Woodbury is bad.

Yeah he is pretty limited by himself. However... putting him out top running around kind randomly on defense really messed up ISUs offensive flow.

And he is the KING of sticking his hip out to hook a guy when setting a screen. He could have been whistled for that 50 times. Drove me nuts it was never called. All that time he should be doing the Mikan drill in practice he was apparently learning how to set sneaky illegal ball screens.

Pretty sure on one play he sets three consecutive moving screens. That ****** me off that they weren't calling it.

Is Northern Iowa more clutch than U of I? Can't help but notice that UNI's 4th best 3 pt shooter hit a falling away prayer at the buzzer to tie it and send to overtime, while the Hoks best 3pt% shooter had a wide open three at the end and clanked it.

I think we found out that "depth" in Hok speak just means "we play a lot of guys, whether theyre good or not, and we sub in those players like a hockey line change without any rhyme or reason to it because deeeppppptth."

By Friday night I was so sick of hearing that word.

Just watched the last 5 minutes again. When Woodbury hit the free throw to out Iowa up 5 with a minute and a half left, I didn't think Iowa State would pull it out. Crazy finish.

That was ticking me off too. He was usually "set" on his screens, but then he'd always stick his hip and leg out. That is a foul.

Woodbury is what he is. He can alter some shots, rebounds ok, and actually is a pretty good passer too. But Niang completely abused him most of the night. That was a big mismatch for us. I think Olaseni or Basabe would have been better at stopping Georges.

How long is it usually until the game replays get put up on cyclones.tv?

Cyclones.tv Info Page - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

The new television contracts for the Big 12 allows for each school's third-tier rights to be distributed by the institution. As such, Iowa State will be guaranteed one football game and several third-tier men's and women's basketball games for distribution on Cyclones.tv. Keep in mind, any Iowa State sporting event that appears live on network television for one of the Big 12's broadcast partners (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FOX family of networks) we are NOT allowed to show live on Cyclones.tv. Those television partners have paid for the rights to broadcast those games. Cyclones.tv is allowed to show a replay of football games 72 hours after its completion and 48 hours for men's and women's basketball.
