Why do we always run a 5 yard pass when we need 12 yds for a First down?

cause we were deep on our side of the field and we wanted to make a conservative play call so we wouldn't turn it over

It may have been Missouri. It was at home, kicking towards the Jake. It could be the worst kick I have ever seen. 5 years ago or so.
