***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***

Georgia Tech?! That is stupid, even by the low standards already set by realignment.

Makes sense for the Big 10. Open up southern markets/recruiting grounds. 16 is better than 14.

This is very good for the Big 12. FSU and Clemson are going to want a good home, and the SEC is going to want to expand its markets and NCSU/UNC/VA Tech make that easy to do.

UNC might be satisfied with staying in the ACC as long as they still have Duke, Wake Forest, Syracuse, UConn, Pitt, Louisville, etc. Would be a killer bball league, and still the 5th best football league, which is where they sit now.

Big XII is not expanding is it???

No legitimate smoke yet. It's all message board speculation and reporters trying to be the first to predict the coming apocalypse that is "sure to happen." All I know is that the Big XII Grant of Rights looks like a genius move right now, and I would expect other weaker conferences (Ahem, ACC & Big East) to follow suit once they can right the ship.

They should just merge and get it over with. Already getting Pitt and 'Cuse. W/ Rutgers allegedly following the Terps, they'd get UConn, USF, UL, Cincy, and... um... who's still left in the Big East??? :jimlad:

Maryland President (after a question whether this could have been done more publicly): "Leadership, especially on controversial issues, cannot be carried out in public."

If you listen to their president talk, it's interesting to see someone try so hard to make their point. He accentuates a lot of words, often awkwardly, in his attempts to talk very forcefully.

They'll merge, but not before the Big Ten, SEC and Big 12 are done picking them over.

I'm sure they'll also be glad to still have the better western and Texas football programs that are left out for football only. My guess is we look at 3 ridiculous power conferences (only saying the Big 12 is one of these because of Texas and OU settling down), the Pac 12 as a smaller power conference, then an ACC that's a top flight basketball league with a handful of western teams (BSU, SDSU, BYU, SMU, Houston) and maybe ND for football only. That'll get the new ACC/Big East up near the football numbers of the other leagues, just not the quality.

The ACC could easily survive in fb without Maryland, but I doubt all the ACC football schools are going to be thrilled with two conferences growing rapidly around them, at least 4 and probably 6 will end up in other major conferences (2 to SEC, 2-4 to Big 12, 1-3 to Big Ten including Maryland).

Don't fool yourselves...it's ON again for MEGATHREAD INSANITY.

Perhaps someone's messing with his teleprompter. "Today we're joining the Big Ten?"

Sadly, these are answers to questions without a teleprompter. I think an introductory speech instructor would have a field day on this guy's answers.

Thankfully, they're throwing out this "we will never have to cut sports again" argument with a stunning frequency.

I agree and am tentatively optimistic that ISU is safe on the inside watching the fireworks this time around!

But, #TRANSPARENCY??

I think The Big Ten will stop with these two, and the ACC adds just either Louisville or UCONN. We stay at ten (maybe) and the Pac stays at twelve. Or all hell could break loose and we add FSU and Clemson. I all I know is that I am tired of this **** every year it is really making college sports become not as interesting and some day players will get paid. I love my Cyclones and always will, but this is getting rediculous.

In response to possibly losing Rutgers and UConn, the Big East made this statement:

It's either this, or my scenario where the Big 12, SEC and Big Ten all feast on 2-4 ACC/Big East teams.

I would call your scenario where the Big 10 and SEC hold at 14 the "awesome 14 team football conference and $hi++y 14 team football conference" scenario.

How do you make the Big Ten a bigger joke...add another consistently sub 60 computer ranking team in Maryland.

The big ten taste like really bad diluted kool aid, way to ******* sell out it is all about the money and yet most of your teams suck balls or cheat. Go to hell big ten hope you are never worth a **** again, but dont worry big ten at least you have ESPN in your back ******* pocket they will tell everyone how great you are when you are not.

As a Cyclone from Maryland and Cyclone via Maryland transfer, I am all for the Terps going to the Big 10 and from what I see on facebook and twitter other terp fans ARE PUMPED...Seeing two of my teams beating up on Iowa is better then one i guess. As far as it making sense for the Big 10? I dont see it one bit...Maryland is stacked with professional markets... Redskins, Ravens, Eagles, and steelers and thats just football. One of the biggest differences between ISU and maryland to me was the loyalty and love fans had for their school. Growing up in Maryland the last time I remember everyone pumped about the school was in 01-04, when they had the national championship in bball in 02 and every once and a while when Maryland beats duke they have a little riot but besides that not many are tuning in every saturday to watch the terps get beat by Georgia tech...With all that said FSU looks like an awesome addition to the BIG XII and it seems the Cyclones are safe this time around which is most important!

More teams will jump if Maryland does not have to pay the 50mill exit fee, but Maryland has a cash cow called under armour dude and well does the teams have that? doubt it. If teams or FSU look to leave is it for our conference? Same goes with Clemson.
