Wouldn't a 12.8 in the Houston market be the eyeball equivalent of about 128 in Des Moines?
Since they have 10x the population I would assume ad rates are 10x too (disclaimer: I know jack abt TV advertising).

It just means that 12.8% of households watching TV were tuned into that game. While that is a lot since Houston is a large market, it's really skewed as those numbers are typically shown as the national number not the market.
I agree that going without divisions is probably the best way to ensure the two best Big12 teams play in the CCG. But I seem to remember reading somewhere that dvisions is part of the requirement to play a CCG.
I am a supporter of balanced divisions. Maybe the Bg12 can review every 4 or 6 years to see if any tweaks are needed to maintain balance. People cite how the Big10s unbalanced divisions has benefitted the Big10 and the schools don't have an issue. The only problem with that storyline is Michigan and Penn State have been down for over 5 years. If they ever return as Top 10-15 teams, I think you will see a call for change.
The above map shows the geographic/contiguous ties of the old Big 8 that should be restored if the league goes to divisions. BYU and WVU are outliers who should be in separate divisions. Which doesn't matter.
Sure, the UT/OU rivalry should be maintained with a permanent status. That's simple. And it's the only game that should have elevated status. ISU, K-State nor the others have such connections to the south. Why fake it otherwise.
This, actually, looks like a fine league to me. Cincinnati or UCONN would, obviously, not be as strong an addition as either UH or BYU, which means one of the former will be chosen.

Not sure what that has to do with expansion, but if you were at the Uconn game I'm sure we met. The crowd was small enough to get everyone's name
It means crowd size doesn't matter - especially now that that ex-ISU assistant Jimmy Johnson is selling size enhancement pills.
So it isn't about crowd size, it's about who uses their size way, way worse that ISU?
We should use the "SEC/B1G" divisional model. Stack one division and make the other division "ok". In most years, the winner of the stacked division will win the conference championship and the second place team in that division may have a shot at the playoffs (think Texas and oklahoma). In the unlikely event that a KState beats Texas in the title game, that still leaves Oklahoma available for the playoffs.
It's gaming the system, but other conferences do it...

MOST fan bases evaporate when a team isn't winning. Jack Trice Stadium is the exception; not the rule. Evidently we're masochists.
Houston has plenty of resources for sustained success. Big city, big name coach, big alumni ba$e, administrative support, & soon they'll have a big conference.
If Houston's place in the expansion pecking-order hinges AT ALL on viewership of OU-UH game, Big 12 decision-makers are more shortsighted than I imagined.
They have a big name coach right now. That coach might be gone in a year. Their administration has admitted that they can't sustain their investments in football if they don't get a P5 invite, they're mortgaging themselves right now, it'll crash down if they don't get invited. And they are a commuter school, which means that yeah they have a lot of alumni, but most of them don't have much of a connection to the school.
Houston is the guy in the block in debt up to his eyeballs and leveraged to the hilt who just took out a payday loan to head down to the casino. If the Big XII doesn't invite them in a few years they will crash back to earth, hard. And that's a better outcome for Iowa State than adding them to the conference.
Also with every candidate right now there is almost zero chance that any of them will get an invite to a different P5 conference so it isn't like there is any need for the Big XII to act fast or miss out. Houston, Cincinnati, BYU, etc; they aren't going anywhere.

Houston is definitely a "strike while the iron is hot" program right now. I totally agree that they're playing a dangerous game of high stakes poker, but if they can come close to replicating last season- how do you say no to that? That level of success is certainly sustainable with P5 status in the the city of Houston. This conference needs competitive football. Adding another school to beat our brains in hardly changes our current situation anyways.
In fact, you should be on your knees begging for an excuse to go back to four non-conference games. Maybe Jamie will get his **** together and find some decent cupcakes so that we're not going into conference play with our tail between our legs every season.
Folks upset about adding commuter schools should get on the "add Colorado State and go to 14 teams" bandwagon. They check every box other than consistently powerful football program.
Land grant ag school in traditional Big 8 territory with a strong academic reputation and growing alumni base. Many Big 12 alumni live in Colorado, so if they can't fill that brand new stadium, I'm sure plenty visiting fans would love to.
Oh- and Denver. Not that they'll deliver the market, but I'm sure our television partners would encourage us to chase it.
