***Official 2026 World Cup Thread***

Analysts had their choice of words to use: "Outclassed, didn't deserve to be on the field, awful, pathetic, couldn't beat a high school team, made of glass Pulasic, got Pepi'ed". They chose "outclassed".

People are going to play the sports they enjoy. Soccer is boring, play 90 minutes or more, run many miles all over the field and only score a couple points. That's like watching Iowa play themselves in FB (or even now in BB), no thanks.
Soccer isn't for everyone, and that's cool. I stopped playing once I got to high school because I liked other stuff more. I think people just need to be more realistic about how good USA will be in soccer compared to the rest of the world.

Soccer is boring to those that don’t understand the strategy behind what’s going on. Hockey is the same way. If you don’t understand the movement and what teams are trying to do, then it looks very boring.

To me, baseball is the sport I find most boring to watch. But I never really got into the strategy in defensive shifts and blah blah blah. But I’m sure that a fan that gets into the strategy of how a pitcher breaks down each at bat enjoys the game more.

It’s more boring than baseball? I love baseball, but I can’t watch a game anymore. I can easily watch a soccer match.

Every other country is inclusive with soccer. US is exclusive. Look at how other countries run their youth programs. That’s the issue. Greed has made soccer unattainable for a vast majority of the country.

Baseball looked at their sport and realized one of the killers was the dead time between pitches so more action would happen. Every pitch has a chance for some big action. Baseball figured out how to keep the attention span of the audience. Soccer needs to find something like that if they want to keep the average viewer watching.

The thing that gets me is that it doesn’t take a lot to figure out what’s going on in soccer. It’s an easier game to understand than football. Do we really need the dopamine hit of frequent scoring in order to enjoy a sport?

It’s the most watched game in the world, by far. America is an absolute drop in the bucket when it comes to soccer viewership.

Tough night, but there is no denying the progress US soccer is making. One result doesn’t change that.

I can confidently say there are more USMNT players right now that belong on this level than ever before and the great news is many of them are going to be around for another WC cycle probably. Freeman, Richards, Tillman, Balogun, Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, etc. That core is going to be around for a while still. There are plenty of young studs out there too and on the way. Trajectory is still up and to the right for this country.

And good news, we’ll see more big time soccer in the states. Copa America is likely going to have the US in it and hosting in 2028 and pretty great chance the US will host the 2038 WC. We’re not going anywhere on the global scene.

Next big question is Pochettino. Will he resign for another WC cycle? Seems like he wants to go back to managing a big club. If he doesn’t want to continue, throw the biggest bag imaginable at Pep and give him four years to work his magic.
