***Official 2026 World Cup Thread***

For a sport that never stops the clock, isn’t the play always on? Like a live ball in basketball?
Think of it this way:

In football, the wr has to come back after every play and set up behind the line of scrimmage. Offside play in soccer would be like allowing the WR to be past the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped

VAR offsides in American football would be more like saying the WR’s pinky was past the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped, so we’re going to call back the TD after everybody’s been celebrating for a minute and the PAT team is on.

And football somehow allows KC’s LT to be 2 yards off the line of scrimmage without penalty. If you give an inch, they’d take a foot. I’d prefer to have non-subjective rules personally.

The blue line is metaphorically a red line.

Not everybody who doesn’t like how the offsides rule is enforced in the VAR era is some stupid American who just doesn’t get it. I’ve seen Europeans discuss how when it was called by eye, it was more about the player’s center of mass. Not everyone is fond of how strict red cards are either.
I agree with you and those are not the ones I’m referring to with my comments. I’m moving on from this topic.

PKs are exciting but they’ll never reach the pinnacle of entertainment that is Continuation Rule 113-D, SUDDEN DEATH DODGEBALL
