For a sport that never stops the clock, isn’t the play always on? Like a live ball in basketball?Or imagine if the receiver made an incredible play and it was called back because he was in an illegal formation to start, that’d be wild.

Same basic concept, if you’re in an illegal position at the start of the play it doesn’t count. Football is at the snap, soccer is when the ball is played in.I guess I don’t get it. I don’t claim to. I watch every now and again.
Hockey has a red line.Same basic concept, if you’re in an illegal position at the start of the play it doesn’t count. Football is at the snap, soccer is when the ball is played in.
Think of it this way:For a sport that never stops the clock, isn’t the play always on? Like a live ball in basketball?
VAR offsides in American football would be more like saying the WR’s pinky was past the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped, so we’re going to call back the TD after everybody’s been celebrating for a minute and the PAT team is on.Think of it this way:
In football, the wr has to come back after every play and set up behind the line of scrimmage. Offside play in soccer would be like allowing the WR to be past the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped
VAR offsides in American football would be more like saying the WR’s pinky was past the line of scrimmage when the ball was snapped.
The blue line is metaphorically a red line. You mean a blue line?
