***OFFICIAL 2026 WEATHER THREAD***

Sorry, lived in Grand Forks ND 5 years and routinely saw actual temps as low as -40. Never heard of an exploding tree.
I watched his video. Apparently an "exploding tree" is simply a tree cracking. I hear that all the time, but never knew it was referenced as an exploding tree

They raised the low for tomorrow from -23 to -20. That really makes a difference. A couple more degrees and it may be shorts weather.

That's what I love about waiting to call of school. "Well let's see here it may just creed up to -18 real temp which is totally different than -24". Just call the damn thing now so people can plan for it.

WHO reporting a back up on Hwy 20 and I-35 corridor.

I know some people leaving for vacation this weekend just wonder if they get there with the snow and ice predicted in the southern US.

I would sure hope so. Having any kids out in this weather is way too dangerous, and it's more dangerous than some of the snow events they cancel for.

Metro here closes more often than burbs because of all the kids walking. Even for us it's 1 mile elementary 1.5 high school. That's a damn haul in these temps.

I think that calls for a very simple solution. If the Superintendent doesn't call off school he/she gets dropped off a mile from work and gets to walk in that day.

now that I'm computer and can look easier - yeah, the metro is 1.5 for ALL levels so that makes sense why they close more often. Damn, a 6-10 yr old walking 1.5 miles twice a day.
