***Official 2025 Weather Thread***

Every since we moved into our new house, we've been dealing with gnats. I have no clue where they are coming from. Yesterday, I poured boiling water down every faucet. We'll see if that works.

I went to a show at Waterworks last night and sweet jesus it felt 85 at 10pm at night.

I just think all the weather complaints are all kinds of funny.
If you're getting bit by mosquitoes on your feet, put your shoes back on. I live on the intersection of two dead end roads on an acreage in the country, so if it doesn't rain the lawn goes dormant--the last thing I'm going to do is water it so I can mow more. I farmed for 50 years and would rather harvest/dry corn in 80 degree weather than with snowballs hittin' me in the ass. Can't wish for rain and cooler weather then complain about field drydown and drying costs, getting trucks in the field, etc. At this point the crop is what it is. Put it in the bin, wash up the equipment and put it back in the shed, do whatever recreational tillage you feel is necessary, and concern yourself with soil moisture levels later if needed. We can't change things so put in a days work, turn on the air if needed to get a good nights sleep and attack another day. I wish everybody a safe and bountiful harvest.

I wish I could go out and enjoy this weather

This stuff keeps the gnats off me https://www.menards.com/main/outdoo...0000/p-1642874271902197-c-10119.htm?exp=false

I'm ready for a drop in temp to kill off the mosquitos. I was out on the deck at my in-laws and got bitten twice on my foot. Its almost October and I'm still dealing with mosquitos.
The no-seeums get you also? They've been terrible lately

Dual hurricanes going up the east coast
I typically only care about central Iowa weather and I very much appreciate this forum’s information (and try to teach myself based on your expertise). But I just booked a trip to Orlando for mid-October and I’m trying to predict whether I need to book better trip insurance with El Niño vs La Niña. Recognize this is a Midwest forum, but appreciate any insight for hurricane season.

I am assuming you are talking about 2-3 weeks out and not next year? We're past the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season (Sept 10th), and so far the trend has been storms staying out to sea. But there are still signs for continued activity. Too far out to know what will really happen or where.

I'm far from an expert. But I think the general consensus is going to be it's probably a good idea and should ease your stress level if you are covered.

Than you for your perspective; I was hoping to hear that. Yes, I’m talking 11 days from now. I’ll miss the Colorado game (but will represent in my gear to ice cream cheers from the Orlando crowd) but no other games. I’m just trying to figure out if I should over-insure the ridiculous cost of the trip.

1.4 inches rain in west Ames last night. Not sure if my slightly tilted gauge affected the total.

49 this morning feels chilly after hitting a record 91 on Friday. Good news about all of the warm weather, my very late season attempt to reseed my mini yard at least got a good initial crop of grass. We'll see if it survives the winter. Worry some that raking later this fall will tear it up too much especially the new grass that will be under a ton of heavy ginko leaves.
