***Official 2025 Weather Thread***

So a week or so ago I looked at long range forecast which was warm and sunny 80 around this Sunday. Decided to do a deck party Sunday afternoon. Each day I look and forecast for Sunday gets hotter, first 85 and now 91. Thought, well, that's a dry fall 90. And nope, humid like an August state fair day. Guess I'll have to bring fans out on the deck.

PS: It ain't a tailgate, lot's of older people from my neighborhood invited.
We had our annual Oktoberfest party in our back yard this past Saturday here in the NW Chicago suburbs and the 2 week out forecast looked amazing, but I tried not to get my hopes up as I knew it would definitely vary. As we moved closer and closer the apps kept starting to show rain and storms, which didn't sound like a good combo with my beer tents set up in the back yard. Decided to brave out the forecast, got the tents prepped Friday, dropped them down and tethered them as best as I could, and hoped for the best. 7am Saturday, strong rain and storms rolled through with decent winds, and lots of lightning and thunder. But, all moved on by 9 or 10, and allowed me to get back outside and was able to watch a Cyclone W while finishing setup before guests arrived for near perfect evening weather for a party.

We got sod on August 14th, and I believe we got one measurable rain fall since.

Picked up 2.1 overnite and .3 today. The wind busted a lot of tops out of the corn.

0.3" In Ames and it came in 10 minutes perfectly timed while we were on hole 2 of Veenker, the furthest point from the clubhouse on the entire course. Another inch over the next couple days would be nice.

It was (to me) perfect out this morning in Ames. Got out the door around 8:30 to run usual Sunday morning errands (fewer screaming kids around the stores during that time). It was foggy, about 60, with a light breeze. Perfect hoodie weather (my favorite). Went to Menards first and ended up walking around their outdoor space/lumber yard just to enjoy it. Reminded me of the Sonoma coast during the summer - early fog that burns off to a sunny day. All that was missing was an ocean.

Certainly feels like summer. 74% humidity with no wind is stupid and should die

I tried to do a little landscaping work this morning while it was still cooler out, but the bugs were determined to make my life hell and I gave up.

I had a similar experience where I was gonna kill off and clean up the garden. Finished harvesting my pumpkins (21 off one plant!) and the bugs were so bad I said screw it. Bees flying around like it’s June. Whatever, I’m waiting for a freeze

Coalville/Lehigh/Duncomb area looks to be getting absolutely pounded by hail right now

Yet another storm that somehow split and completely avoided the West side of Ames, and then reconverged right after. Someone should really do a case study on why West Ames somehow consistently less rain than the rest of the city.
