I just hope this recent spell means ticks and mosquitoes are down this year.

I was looking into this and apparently it doesn't really affect tick populations that much. Maybe delays their onset a bit.

Same with mosquitos which will pop up when there's standing water and warm temperatures.

Which really surprises me. Last year the ticks were crazy bad and I had thought the extremely warm winter was the reason. Wonder what the real reason was.

Saw a blurb that they can be active as soon as it's over freezing. I'd guess it was because they didn't go dormant or for very long since it was a fairly mild winter.

I know I camped in northern WI in mid-May and expected not to see many since ice-out is usually late but found a few.

Last year I had my first tick the last weekend of February. Makes sense, I had never in my life seen that though.

I got sunburned today. Tomorrow's high is 88 at Costa Maya. Real life returns Sunday. I AM pumped that Saturday's game is on ESPN and the cruise ship has that. Saturday is at sea, so hopefully I'm watching the game from a hot tub.
From my experience ESPN at sea is not the same as ESPN at home due to broadcast rights and what not

I'm bummed that we don't get to Galveston until Sunday, otherwise I'd go to the Fritatatata center to watch the game live. I'll be super bummed if we don't get the game.

VPN is your friend when traveling. Turn off the GPS in your device and you’ll get national channels. Still won’t get locals, but it’s a start.

Also weather junkies. What say you about last frost date in the Chicago area? Any insights yet?

Starting seeds this weekend for my balcony garden I think and trying to time it is a little tricky

It's sort of a moving target, but I think you'd be safe from a killing frost on things in the open air by April 20 at that latitude. But I think you could often get away with starting things a couple weeks earlier than that, it's just a matter of accepting a little risk.

Maybe if you get the unlimited streaming package on the boat it could work. Otherwise you are SOL. Only real time I have seen real sports on a ship I was on was the 2020 football national championship game. We left out of New Orleans where it was being held the day of the game which was between LSU and Clemson. There were a TON of fans on the ship. Potentially due to the fact that we had the six hour trip down the Mississippi so they could argue we were in US waters they showed the game.

I'm trying to get over a cold. Going outside for a few minutes causes my nose to run like a faucet for the next couple of hours.

Yea you’re gonna get ESPN Caribbean coverage which is mostly Soccer and Cricket.
When we were cruising in Jan. the ISU/KU game was not on because they were using ESPN Caribbean, when I went into the sports bar and asked to change the channel, he said its on the right channel. Not sure if it affects ESPN and ESPN2, but it does their other channels. Go into the sports bar and ask them if you can see the list of games they will have on, they generally have a sheet that tell them the games and the channel at the bar for that week.

They were broadcasting the college football playoffs on the ship in January. The Texas game was packed in and around the sports bars, and they show NBA and NHL games every night. We have watched a lot of college bb games on a cruise, but there is not many games to chose from.

So how about Cancun. Will I be able to watch the OSU-ISU next Tuesday at the bar or must we watch on a tablet? Or does it depend on the resort?
