*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Obviously be nice to win the division but it's probably unlikely at this point. The key is try to get the top wild card spot so you can host that series and that your playing good ball/team is healthy come late September.

Pretty wild that when you eliminate the injured guy in the heart of the lineup whose injury is literally preventing him from hitting a baseball that the offense improves.

Good step in the right direction today— let’s finish off this series.

Oh and also, Boog sucks.

He’s going through it right now, and even he might not be able to figure out exactly what’s going on. You gotta stop with the “he’s overrated” thing though. Go take a look at his career numbers and keep in mind he has a WS ring. He’s an elite hitter and you wouldn’t be able to find a single scout that disagrees with that. I’m quite certain he’s still going to have a huge impact on this offense before the season is done. Even with this putrid stretch included he has an .821 OPS on the year. That’s pretty insane when you think about it.
I’ve always said he’s a good player, but is he truly elite like Ohtani, Judge, Soto, Acuña, or Harper? Yes, he has a World Series ring, but that’s a team achievement. Individually, his résumé is solid but not elite—he’s never batted over .292, never hit more than 30 home runs, and has yet to win an MVP. This season isn’t disastrous; his numbers are just slightly below his career averages. The Cubs media hyped him heavily in the offseason as an elite talent, but in reality, he’s a good player—perhaps a slightly upgraded version of Cody Bellinger, not a true superstar. Do you consider players like Alex Bregman, Paul Goldschmidt (a former MVP), Christian Yelich (a former MVP), or Corey Seager elite?

This is rare and really cool

It's a good thing we didn't cancel the season just yet.

In all seriousness, I would love to catch the Brewers but there is so much still on the table even as a wild card team. More than enough time to get hot and feel good going into the playoffs.

Get the top WC. Win a series at home. Then get the LDS against the Brewers.

Have to give both credit they bust their tail on the bases:

speaking of baserunning. Kyle Tucker's frustrations at the plate are definitely carrying over to other aspects of his play. Pat and Ron have mentioned the other day that he wasn't running hard to first even thought the first baseman bobbled the ball. I think there was another instance this week where he wasn't running out a grounder.

Giving him a mental break probably long overdue.

I agree. I mentioned it the other day, this team's inability to properly manage injuries is getting frustrating. Took them 2.5 month of Tucker playing like crap to finally admit he's hurt and needs to rest/reset. Have seen the same things happen to Swanson, Nico, Suzuki, and Happ in recent years too where either we knew they were playing hurt or they reveal months later after 1 of them had a bad stretch that they were playing hurt. Just look at Nico last season, he was playing hurt when we were all but basically eliminated from the playoffs and they finally revealed that he needed surgury. He barely recovered in time for the start of the season as a result when they could have shut him down sooner last year and done it then to give him plenty of time in the offseason to heal but instead they felt having him play through it for some meaningless games at the end of the season was more important. I think it was obvious something wasn't right with Swanson a couple times too and they revealed later on he was playing hurt. He had to have surgery for a core injury in the offseason too.

This is why when you have Caissie and Alcantara knocking at the door for a callup and you go as long as you did with Tucker playing like he was why he was just sit down sooner or even put on the IL to heal up. As a result not only have the Cubs struggled during that stretch but he's also probably has lost some years and millions in a potential contract in the offseason too. I get that guys are competitors and want to play through stuff but when it gets to the point that it's affecting their performance and hurting the team in the process sometimes shutting them down for a 10 day IL stint may be the best thing to do instead of enduring prolonged weeks of less production and not letting an injury heal.

I know he is going through a rough stretch but that shouldn’t be an excuse for not playing hard. I always appreciated Matt Shaw even when he wasn’t playing well because he always gives 100%. Shawon Dustin was not my favorite player but I always appreciated his effort.

Javier Assad back at Wrigley.

Someone would need to go on the IL for him to be activated. Figured they had a plan when he was optioned but interested to see what happens here.

Horton to the IL backdated to yesterday. You're trying to conserve innings anyway so missing a start isn't a bad thing at all.
