*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Pet Peeve with baseball. Teams using position players when things get out of hand. Didn't really matter to the Marlins if they lost 9-1 or 14-1. But they were able to use 1 less bullpen arm to finish the game. Fortunately for the Cubs they were in position to use their end of bullpen guy for 2 innings.

Baseball made a pretty significant rule change a few years ago regarding extra inning games. They should implement a run rule or allow losing manager's to say "No Mas".

No fun for fans or players to have played the 9th inning last night.
I’d wager to guess a heavy majority of managers and players would vote to have a run rule. The last couple innings of a blowout are just a gigantic waste of time and not really a ton of opportunity to take out your starters like in football or basketball.

I just saw a Skenes trade proposal that I’d be ok with. Caissie. Ballestareos Alcantara Rojas and Cabada . If we’re truly win now that doesn’t take anyone away that would be a contributor in 25 with the possible exception of MB.

Future rotation
Skenes
Imanaga
Steele
Horton
Boyd

Depth
Rea
Brown

Trade Taillion for a really good prospect
And Assad when he returns for a closer.

Other big plus Skenes will be on the cheap through Imanaga’s contract so none of the rotation will be costly anytime.

If you’re going to tell me the Pirates won’t go for it save it because I figure that as well. But if you think we won’t I’d be interested to hear why.

Any team would make that trade if they were on the side receiving Skenes.

In the real world though, that obviously gets laughed out of the building by the Pirates. They clearly won’t trade him, but if they did the package would unprecedented.

Imagine a team asking for Kris Bryant in November 2016.

The only way to get players of that caliber through trade is to trade someone who is close to that caliber along with prospects. In the Pirates case, that player would also need to be cost controlled for at least as long as Skenes is.

Just not a lot of teams with the willingness and the pieces to make a trade like that.

Any trade would start with Horton Brown Shaw and Bellestaros.
First he is in division, second he hasn't even hit arbitration yet, and third every team outside the White Sox and Rockies would try to trade for him

PCA would almost certainly have to be in the deal for the Pirates to listen. Now, I don't think you'd have to give up as much but why on earth would the Cubs do that?

PCA, Caissie, Wiggins probably gets it done but why would the Cubs do that for a pre-Tommy John guy that you only get 28 starts out of?
