I love Busch looking back at Berry like "I can't believe you actually sent me". Might be one of the worst sends you'll ever see.
It wasn't a high percentage send because Stower appeared to throw from about 25 feet beyond the infield grass.

But there were 2 out and the ensuing hitter has a 25-30% shot of getting a hit to score the run.

Probably a wash- 30% shot of a hit and 30% shot Stowers throws wildly off-line.

I’m still having seizures over the bullpen. One more biscuit from Miami hitters and Palencia blows two games in three days. Something needs to be done Jed, like, now. Please, we’re begging.

Don’t blame Jed blame Ricketts
The owner controls free agent signings, but not trades. Jed could trade for a pitcher tomorrow and there's nothing Ricketts could do about it other than outright fire Jed, which he won't do. I'm dangling one of the three non-Moises AAA bats to anyone in MLB that will send back a competent veteran late inning reliever, doesn't have to be a closer necessarily. Triantos, Alcantara or Caissie, one of those three, would happily include a lower level guy as well if necessary.

They should of done something in the offseason but instead we picked up some more washed up relievers that are overpaid for what they have done so far. Pressly is the highest paid bullpen arm at $8.5 mil and is as nerve racking as watching Rod Beck close a game. Braiser is the next highest paid at $4.5 mil who we have got just 1 inning out of before he was hurt. 7.1 crappy innings out of Eli Morgan who is now on the 60 day IL. Theilbar actually has been better than expected and 2 non roster invitees in Keller and Flexen have done well. I am shocked that the trade for Pomeranz has turned out good so far.

Basically the front office talked a big game about improving the bullpen but didn't land a single lock down guy in free agency or via trade for the late innings once again. Hopefully we don't have to overpay in prospects to get that guy at the trade deadline but I have a bad feeling that is what will happen. Would have rather paid the high price for a guy in free agency with multiple years of control than possibly trade away a big piece that could be useful in a year or 2 for a guy we may only get a few months use out of.

The owner very much has a say in trades if it increases payroll. Jed is not going to make a trade without ownership signing off on spending more money. Ricketts maybe has a number that Jed is allowed to go up to until needing his approval but to go over that I highly doubt he has a free pass to go out and get anyone without including ownership in the discussion.

To be fair, Jed made basically the same offer to Tanner Scott that the Dodgers did but he chose LA. Same deal with Kirby Yates, more or less and Yates has been very, very pedestrian.

Bullpens are a total crapshoot.

Naturally. We've got the power and we've got the speed to be the best in the National League,
Heard it here first.
Side note: I don't know how widely known this is, but the relentless cheeriness of "Go Cubs Go" is somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

Steve Goodman, a Chicago native and life-long Cubs fan, wrote "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request" in 1981, which references decades of Cubs futility in a funny and good-natured way. The Cubs front office and particularly GM Dallas Green hated the song, and Green apparently made sure everyone knew that, even banning the song from being played or performed at Wrigley.

Not long after, Goodman heard that WGN radio was looking for a new theme song for their Cubs broadcasts, and he offered to write one for them, which became "Go Cubs Go". The extremely optimistic lyrics of the song were supposedly intentionally written to poke fun at the reaction he got from Dallas Green for the previous song.

"Go Cubs Go" was recorded early in 1984 with members of the 1984 Cubs team singing in the background chorus. Of course, the Cubs won the division that season, but Goodman never got to see it -- he had been diagnosed with terminal leukemia in 1968 at age 20, and he passed away Sept 20, 1984. In 1988, Steve's brother David and friend Harry were allowed (through unofficial channels) to sprinkle some of his ashes in the outfield in tribute to the lyrics of "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request".

Here's a really cool video of Goodman performing "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request" from a Wrigley rooftop.

And here he is performing his most famous song, "City of New Orleans" which originally became famous from Arlo Guthrie's version but also won Goodman a posthumous Grammy in 1985 from Willie Nelson's cover.

Go Cubs Go definitely has been a staple after a win. Pretty neat legacy for someone to leave. Another fun fact, Steve wrote a big hit with John Prine for David Allan Coe

On the subject of the Cardinals defense this is an interesting read

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...is-cardinals-defense-contender-trade-deadline

Especially the part comparing how Contreras stands just as close to home plate as Rizzo used to on likely bunt attempts. It will be interesting to see their approach at the trade deadline if they go all in if they are in striking distance of the division or do they kind of do what the Cubs have done lately is try to add cheap on the margins and hope they find lightning in a bottle and if they don't then nothing was lost.
