*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

There's zero chance he's going to pass up being a free agent at 27.
You never know. Getting some financial security now over waiting several more years where you risk injury or not sustaining the level of performance when you can take the money now is a big risk/reward decision to weigh. If he had the season he is having right now and at the end of the year the Cubs offer a 10 year deal for $200-250 mil or even just something that takes him beyond the arbitration years around that $20 mil AAV that makes things interesting. Look at how the core of the 2016 WS team turned down extensions and didn't get nearly the money the Cubs were offering before they traded them. Rizzo is not even on a team and had to sign short deals with the Yankees. Bryant got paid but he reportedly turned down a $200 mil deal from the Cubs which is more than he got from the Rockies. Same with Baez, was rumored the Cubs offered him $160-170 and he took less to sign with the Tigers. In hindsight I am glad all 3 turned down the offers because the Cubs would be in a mess financially right now with 3 guys that were not worth what they were being paid and would not have some of the young guys like PCA and Alcantara either that they got in return.

Just couldn't get the big hit today.....still had a great time at The Great American Ballpark. Win the series tomorrow.

Been to a lotta parks but not that one. How was it?

I‘be only been once, way back in 2010, but I liked GAB a lot.

Old school baseball atmosphere, but in a reasonably modern stadium. Underrated, and a bucket list park for any fan.

Awesome. Pittsburgh is on my list, I'd love to piggyback Cincy with it sometime.
Few years back I hit up Cleveland, Baltimore, and DC on one trip, and I thought Cleveland was very underrated.

I’ve done Pittsburgh too. Awesome view.

Agreed on Cleveland. Nice park.

Camden Yards is a must too. DC is a nice park but feels sterile.

Sterile is a good description.

Headed to Wrigley for the 4th. Love a green ivy game.

Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are hopefully next on my list. I've done Cubs games in Denver, KC, Milwaukee, Minnesota, St. Louis, Washington, and Atlanta.

I went to DC back in 2009 or 2010. Both teams were terrible and we bought like 10 dollar nosebleed tickets. We went down to take some pictures before the game and the usher asked us where our seats are and if we'd like to sit right behind the Cubs dugout instead.

Definitely make a point to go to both if you can.

I’ve done Cubs games at:

Colorado (they’re in town Labor Day weekend this year, so planning to go again)
Minnesota
Milwaukee
KC
St Louis
Pittsburgh

Non-Cubs games at:

White Sox
Detroit
Cleveland
Cincinnati
Philly
Baltimore
DC
Miami

Going NE and seeing both NY parks and Fenway are on my bucket list.

The MLB ballpark app is great for tracking games you've attended. Been to a lot of games, but most have been at Wrigley and Kaufman.

Made a goal to see every MLB team in person, and I'm down to the Mets, Reds and Marlins. Reds will be in KC starting tomorrow, so might get that one checked off if it doesn't rain.

Cubs offered him 10/$75 mil before the season and sounds like it was a pretty quick “no thanks”.

Interesting the Cubs called up McGuire over Ballesteros. Would seem to indicate either:
  1. Cubs gave specific things to work on his swing when he got sent down. He hit a lot of ground balls in Chicago.
  2. Cubs feel Ballesteros isn't ready to catch at MLB level.

We getting close to the point of taking Brown out of a starter role?
Not sure where they go on the 5th starter if not Brown.

I lay this outing on Counsell. He's pretty resistant on going to bullpen in 4th/5th inning. Sure Brown cruised in innings 2-4 and 5th fell apart quickly. But with the middle of Reds lineup due up & 3rd time theough, maybe bullpen should have been throwing/loosening up to start inning or after 1st hit.
