I think that's the million dollar question. Bullpen is solid and rotation has been up to this point but they don't get a ton of strikeouts so maybe it's a little luck aided. Their defense does certainly help the pitching too. I agree with your thoughts on Bloom. It's an odd spot for sure. I'm sure they had thought 3 weeks ago they'd be moving Arenado, gray, and helsley.
I'm just now learning that the Cardinals are playing elite defense this year. That explains a lot. From afar it also seems as though they've had some pretty good injury luck. They did nothing in the offseason which makes me think the FO didn't see a group that was very close to competing for a Championship, and they're probably in a poor position to add much at the deadline. Its gonna be very interesting to see where they go from here.

Shaw has hit well since the call up, hopefully the trend continues. We don't nessecarily need him to be anything more than average this year. Anything on top of that would be a nice bonus. If he can stick, that's one fewer need to trade. A quality starter and closer would be my wish list right now.

I will say one of the better things about this team so far is they’ve usually responded well to a bad outing. Just haven’t seen many 2+ game skids. Seem to take losing personally, which I’m not sure was the case last year.

Pet Peeve with baseball. Teams using position players when things get out of hand. Didn't really matter to the Marlins if they lost 9-1 or 14-1. But they were able to use 1 less bullpen arm to finish the game. Fortunately for the Cubs they were in position to use their end of bullpen guy for 2 innings.

Baseball made a pretty significant rule change a few years ago regarding extra inning games. They should implement a run rule or allow losing manager's to say "No Mas".

No fun for fans or players to have played the 9th inning last night.

Second day in a row for Tucker at DH. Hope that doesn't signal he is dealing with a minor injury given his slump at the plate lately, but with the Cubs you never know anymore as they haven't exactly been transparent with the severity of injuries in recent years.
