I'll probably be massively wrong, but I think Boyd is solid today. Calling 2 runs in 6 innings work.
I think there is decent change he's good today. Looking at season splits, he's actually been quite a bit better on 4 days rest than 5+ for the season.

That said, no chance in hell he's going 6 innings. Boyd/Shota/Taillon have pitched a total of 19.2 innings across six games. The longest any pitcher has gone in the postseason was Boyd's 4.1 IP in game 1 against SD and then Civale went 4.1 IP in mop duty of game 1 against MIL.

If he can get through the lineup twice I'll feel good. A great outcome out would be 4+ IP and 1 run.

Is my math off because if he goes thru the lineup twice he will have at least pitched 6 innings.

You could technically go through the lineup twice in one inning. I think it would be pretty standard to take about 4 innings to go through the lineup twice when you factor in walks/hits.

Twice through lineup = 18 batters

Four innings = 12 outs

That’s six batters reaching base in 4 innings. I guess that can work without allowing runs, but in an elimination game I don’t know if you’re comfortable with your starter putting 6 guys on in 4 innings.

math is hard … I should probably stop working today as all I have been doing is calculations.

So, here’s my probably dumb take on the lineup: I think you need to bat Horner 5th. You can’t count on anybody else to get contact with men on, so to try to make that work, here’s how I’d set the lineup:

1. PCA
2. Busch
3. Tucker
4. Suzuki
5. Hoerner
6. Happ
7. Kelly
8. Swanson
9. Shaw

The worst guy at getting on base statistically is leading off. Odds are he’ll never hit there.

Agree with the Hoerner take - would love him batting behind Tucker and Suzuki, two elite guys at getting on base

Yeah, I wasn’t sure where to put people. You could argue Happ works from this perspective, and he’s led off before, but I dunno how to feel about that right now.
