***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

Dayton got 5" and Ackworth, 4.8" according to Megan on WHO-TV this morning.

I need to work an issue out with my neighbor whose 10' long black tile tube they have off their downspout that they have so graciously placed it so it points about a foot straight into my yard. :curse::curse:

Setup a utility pump to spray it back against their house.

But I think there are typically municipal regulations for how far away from a property line you can discharge a sump pump. Might look that up to see if you can just use that as a conversation starter.

Friday night we had 1.25" and last night was another 1" - looks like I can turn the irrigation off for a few days.

Think Des Moines had heat burst this morning as a t-storm died out over town. Temp went from 70 to 84 in 10 minutes, dew points briefly tanked and had a sudden gust of wind.

The setup does check out besides one thing. You typically don't see rain with them. Everything else though... This was a decaying t-storm with some drier air in the mid levels. The air begins to rush out of the decaying t-storm and goes through come compressional warming. Here's a bit more on heat bursts: https://www.weareiowa.com/article/w...ined/524-51d54741-1332-4597-8f9d-5944960076e9

I’d never heard of a derecho until we had that bad one a few years ago. Now it’s seems to be a common thing.

Over-hyping social media users throw out the term way more than in the past. It seems like with every bow echo, someone is throwing around the derecho term, whether it is warranted or not. And it's not just with these kinds of things. They are trying to generate clicks.

Could we cool it with the 2 AM storms? I'm south of Des Moines and that's two sleepless nights in a row between the storms and my kids.
