***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

It looks as if there are 5 more flights scheduled to land in DSM tonight. Two from NYC...one from Minneapolis...one from Detroit and one from Atlanta.

Unless the Cowboys are connecting with any of those........looks like they are not coming.

Don't they usually fly into Ames?

Yup. We have folks in that boat, too.
I'm just looking ahead to bills in February. I'd prefer this weekend not to be what it will be.
On the other hand, if I can get there, and I think that maybe I can, there might be a good chance to do the whole shift. I assume that people will be calling out.

Crappy thing is with Houston this week and a conference home double header if we had good weather this was a good week to make good money as a restaurant and it's going to end being a horrible week profit wise as a restaurant.

I miss my apartment in downtown Madison during this type of weather. It would shut down and people would cross country ski around the streets.
I live on Kingman Blvd in DSM and saw two separate groups do this today. We have lived here nearly 20 years and this is a first.

It was.
For me, I don't want to see the paycheck savaged by a lack of hours, since I already have a job that won't pay again until the end of March. (It's really time to find something boring and steady somehow.)

I feel for you guys that have to get out in this stuff. I hope your employer appreciates your dedication. I have walked in your shoes and know how nerve racking it is driving at night with horrible road conditions. Glad I don't have to make that choice any longer.

Mine were great about it. One offers emergency time, the other not, so there's that.

I was thinking yesterday about how many bad storms I've pushed my way through. I'm surprised that I couldn't pull this one off tonight, but it's probably for the best.

Those things should not be allowed on campus. And anyone who orders their use should be required to walk every inch of those polished routes, starting 15 min after the machine passes.

Those were a hazard when I was there. Not looking forward to the drive or the mess around Hilton tomorrow.

Better duck for cover. I agree with you but, some of our fans went nuts last year when we canceled the drake game so the players could beat the storm and get home for Christmas

I was disappointed on that cancelation but understood it. This is actually quite a bit worse storm. imo.

Yes I'm almost certain rural Iowa folk follow that law.

Yeah I didn't say it's enforced haha.

I may hsve stopped a couple of grass fires last summer because of people being so conditioned to just burning everything while it was super dry.
