Current dew point in Ames is 18. I wouldn’t call that a limiting number imo.

Same goes for Ames. People joke about the bubble thing but I can't tell you how many times I've watched snow and rain split around the city in the last 10 years.

You must not have been as dry as us this summer and fall. I'd take 2' of snow for groundwater's sake.

Most of the snow will run off now with the ground froze. We got 2 inches middle of December that soaked in.

We were slightly dry which was perfect for us this summer.
