***Official 2024 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I would agree with some comments on blind adherence to analytics by FO. But I was expecting Counsell to have a better feel for the game and lineups.

Hendricks is a great example. He's beyond letting him work through trouble. When things go back for Kyle, they go bad fast and big. Once he gets through the line-up 1x and gives up a few hits, call on the bullpen. It's not like Counsell is trying to build up an unproven pitchers confidence.
he can be okay and if something goes wrong behind him he loses focus and things go bad very quickly

Would’ve been a damn shame to let the guy who just got off the 60 day IL to have a game or two where he wasn’t out in a really ****** spot

Are we sure Horton is ready for 2025? He seems to have the top prospect curse written all over him (Brennen Davis, Brailyn Marquez, etc).
This set back moves him back to mid-season i think.

But if they keep Taillon or replace him with a 3rd ace we'll be looking good rotation wise. 4, 5 they'll have Assad, brown and Wicks. With Horton in Des Moines.

This feels like a dead cat bounce game before the trade deadline and things fall apart.

I think Wisdom is a good bench piece for good teams.

He made the most of his opportunity in 2021 with the sell off by hitting his ceiling and Jed gave him a starting job in 2022 and 2023 with zero plan if it didn't work out the next few years and he most definitely is not a MLB regular player. This, in turn, hurt his perception.

We, the fans, expect a starting 3B for the Cubs to perform like a starting 3B. He's not, yet was thrown into that role.

What I'm trying to say is....whether you like Wisdom or not...this is all Jed's fault.

Sutcliffe annoys me a lot but calling Hodge fearless is a good observation. He just might be the closer of the future.
When a guy has Hodge's velocity, that can overcome mistakes. If there is one longer term positive of 2024 is Cubs relief staff has some big arms.

Now if they can only add a big velocity starter arm this off season. And then hope Brown and Horton stay healthy and ready for ML rotation in 2025.

Tonight the wisdom haters can **** off.
Not a Wisdom hater, but at time I thought Bote would have been a better option to PH.

Wisdom can be a solid bench player, but have felt he needs regular at bats. Although his defense is below average, he has utility value as 1B,3B,LF,RF.
