...47.1...from 2 feet around the rim! A competent scorer would be 80% + from that range. Defend, rebound...pass back out to open shooters hopefully. If he does that, he'll be serviceable.

Based on a quick Google search, LeBron, over his career, is at 80.1% within 3 feet of the rim. 47.1% is not good, but you may want to adjust your expectations.

My dream would to be get two good shooters and a Jackson Vroman type center in the portal
It'll be a case of where the money will have the most impact. Might be there is only enough for 2 guards and we'll be priced out of any impactful big men.

I get what you’re saying, but if you look a little deeper Homan was MUCH more valuable than Jones to their respective teams.

A.) Homan played twice as many minutes his senior year than Jones did. He also was the only real post player on a team that used a 6 man rotation in 2004. B.) On approximately the same usage rate, Jones had a turnover rate of 18.3 last year compared to Homan’s 12.2 his senior year. Homan had a win share of 4.3 his senior year. Jones had a win share of 1.2 last year.

Per 40 minutes, Homan averaged 15 pts, 9.6 RBs, 2.3 blocks, and 1.2 assists (on a much faster-paced team). Jones averaged 13.3 pts, 9.0 RBs, 0.9 blocks, and 2.1 assists. More importantly Jones averaged 3.2 turnovers and 6.3 fouls per 40 minutes versus 2.2 turnovers and 3.1 fouls per 40 for Homan.

Jones’ BPM per game was 0.7 last year (0.2 in the Big 12), meaning, statistically, he was almost more actively harmful as opposed to contributor to last year’s squad.
Did I say Jones is a better player than Homan?

Please......................no more energy guys.
Looks to me like Gilbert is a big guard who does a decent job of facilitating and can shoot the 3 when needed. Seems like a good combo guard to me.

Averaged 11.4 ppg on 27.4 mpg

Similar A/TO and steal rates as Tamin, but Gilbert actually shoots 3's and has a higher usage rate due to that it appears. I wonder how Gilbert is on defense though.

Gilbert is a really good defender.

He needs to cut down on turnovers on the offensive end but made a great jump from freshmen to sophomore year as a shooter. Hopefully he can maintain that efficiency while adding some volume playing off the ball more.

His turnovers- was that because he had the ball in hands more often than he would at Iowa State?

If we got Pav, I could see him not handling the ball as much when he's on the floor with Pav and Tamin/Williams.

Yeah, seems like he was in a scoring PG role at UNLV though I admittedly haven't got a chance to watch any full game film. His usage was extremely high as was his turnover rate. Can we transition him more to a secondary or even tertiary ball handler/facilitator and would that help him become more efficient and a better scorer? That would seem to be the plan we lay out for him this weekend.

I would expect Gilbert to play of the ball but can play PG/SG/SF. As others have mentioned he is very good on the ball defender and has the makeup TJ likes in his guards. He can shoot the three but I was impressed with his ability to slash to and finish in the paint. That is one area ISU has lacked from it's guards (sans Brockington). Would fill a nice roll and would pair very nicely with Pav who is still working on his defense.
Adding those 2 could replace the production of Gabe, Grill and Holmes which we lost.

Noon today. No time zones listed on the doc I saw, so I assume the NCAA will hand out penalties arbitrarily based on the location of the coach, the recruit, and/or Bill Self’s toupee.
Speaking of, sounds like Nick Timberlake is in Lawrence this weekend. Bags of cash will be blocking him from that town leaving without a commitment

Can't do much slashing when other teams pack the paint because of our poor shooting. On the rare night we shot well are driving to the basket improved. I keep seeing people talk about stretch 4's and 5's. I am more concerned about stretch 1's, 2's, and 3's.

Because we didn’t have a better backup center than Jones. If we did, TJ would have played that player. BTW, Homan was even worse than Jones at passing. Jones had 0.9 assist per 17 minutes vs 1.0 per 36 minutes Homan. Jones is not great offensively but I have seen players who were even worse.
Homan didn’t always lose the ball after 1 dribble in the paint.
