Jones was not a featured player. He was a backup center who only played 17 minutes per game which is less than half of Homan’s minutes in his senior year.
17 minutes a game isn't a featured player? Dude got tons of time out there.
What does his defensive stats have anything to do with him shooting 12 times a game and only connecting 43% of time with only 1 assist? Was Homan a better player than Jones? Yes, he was. My response was to those people who are very critical of Jones offensive efficiency. Did they say things like “Homan should never shoot“, “His shots have no chance of going in”, “he should pass out to guards after he touches the ball”, and “he is not a division 1 player”? Homan had better supporting casts to pass out the ball in Stinson, Blalock, and Rashon Clark.
I wasn't into basketball when Homan was around so I can't help you there. I'm just gonna leave it at saying if Jones was doing any of the things that it appeared Homan did well then people wouldn't be asking if he even belongs in D1.

When we're already a bad offensive team Jones can't be missing all his layups and post moves, not pass the basketball, miss 70% of his FTs, and turn the ball over as often as he does. The Rob Runs are real things. All that **** gets amplified when you can't shoot, which makes his usage even more over the top bad.

Out of all the Rob defenses I've seen I'm yet to see anyone explain what he does to get all this playing time, which bothers me since he's been here 2 years. It's usually just excuses as to why someone else can't have those minutes and then once those players get the minutes they show out and play way better than he does. Tre King and late season Ward come to mind

Not opposed to any of the guys visiting. Hope we land someone. Every transfer season tho, I am always wanting that one guy who may or may not be a fit, but I thought we could have a 'good' shot at. One year it was the kid from SD who went on to Tech and was really good. (forgot his name already-lol). Last year of course we all wanted AJ, and we know how that turned out. This year my guy is Andrew Rohde, because he's a midwest guy with potential and has multiple years to play. Now hearing Creighton is very involved unless he goes to the home state yet of Wisc and play for the Badgers. Can only imagine the NIL$$$ Creighton can fork out. McDermott sits on a gold mind there. Maybe one of these years, we will get my 'diamond in the rough' steal I pinpoint in the spring. LOL

Jones is not great but he shot 47.1%. He attempted 5.2 shots and had 0.9 assists per game in 17 minutes. A player that most people here at CF love, shot only 43% while attempting 12 shots per game. He played 36 minutes per game and only averaged 1 assist pre game. I guess this player shouldn’t have attempted 12 shots per game.
...47.1...from 2 feet around the rim! A competent scorer would be 80% + from that range. Defend, rebound...pass back out to open shooters hopefully. If he does that, he'll be serviceable.

Really hope we get Jackson Paveletzke and Darrion Williams. Pav has good handles and can shoot it. Williams has NBA potential they say. I agree on a big center, but I think that will be tough to get.

Not so sure about the UNLV offering. No so sure ISU needs anyone head butting the opponent at a timeout break.

Paveletzke, Williams and Gilbert are all kinda combo guards with multiple years to play. That seems like 1 of the 3 for the CG spot (or maybe 2 if Williams is one of them, as he has the best size).

I still expect them to go for a 5th year leader volume scorer.

My favorite fan theory is that UNLVRebelGirl is actually TJ's wife ******* with him.
Gilbert: good outside defender with energy:

Paveletzke: Freshman of year, 39% 3-pts. 84% FTs:

If he shoots 80%, he will play in the NBA with his height. We are talking about a backup center.

Because we didn’t have a better backup center than Jones. If we did, TJ would have played that player. BTW, Homan was even worse than Jones at passing. Jones had 0.9 assist per 17 minutes vs 1.0 per 36 minutes Homan. Jones is not great offensively but I have seen players who were even worse.

I get what you’re saying, but if you look a little deeper Homan was MUCH more valuable than Jones to their respective teams.

A.) Homan played twice as many minutes his senior year than Jones did. He also was the only real post player on a team that used a 6 man rotation in 2004. B.) On approximately the same usage rate, Jones had a turnover rate of 18.3 last year compared to Homan’s 12.2 his senior year. Homan had a win share of 4.3 his senior year. Jones had a win share of 1.2 last year.

Per 40 minutes, Homan averaged 15 pts, 9.6 RBs, 2.3 blocks, and 1.2 assists (on a much faster-paced team). Jones averaged 13.3 pts, 9.0 RBs, 0.9 blocks, and 2.1 assists. More importantly Jones averaged 3.2 turnovers and 6.3 fouls per 40 minutes versus 2.2 turnovers and 3.1 fouls per 40 for Homan.

Jones’ BPM per game was 0.7 last year (0.2 in the Big 12), meaning, statistically, he was almost more actively harmful as opposed to contributor to last year’s squad.

Okay. I get it. You like math...;)
