***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I'm not really sure how you can really play many games carrying 3 catchers when none of them really play any other positions and none of then are much of a consistent bat.

How much better would baseball be if the season started 4/30 instead of 3/30.. Plus the World Series guaranteed last day possible was 10/31.

1/3-1/2 of the US is still at risk of snow right now.. November is for Football, while October is still early enough in the season for people to not be thinking about the playoffs or CFP (bowl season) yet
I pretty much agree with this, except I’d start the season the Sunday night of The Masters and have Game 1 of the World Series set for the 1st of October.

Or better still, shorten the NBA season so it is done by early May and start the MLB season right after. 60 games for the NBA and 120-128 for baseball would be perfect…

How do pro athletes get cramping problems because they had to spend the day at the hospital with their wife? That being said, I hope she's ok. :)
they dont have water at hospitals so you cant stay hydrated

Happy extended for 3 years.

This is huge. Next years holes were an outfield spot, 3B, and an SP. We just patched one of those holes with plenty of money to spare.

There's just too much positivity going around right now. I'm not sure what to do, really.

Deal is perfect for both sides. The rare double win.

I also think it tells us what the org really thinks of Brennan Davis. Both corners are now locked down until, at least, 2026. PCA is obviously the guy in Center regardless of whether he hits or not.

I may be wrong but I believe we are at $180 million committed to next year not including ~ $20 million towards arbitration. So, worst case, we’re at $200 with $37 million until we hit luxury cap ($237 million next year)

However

Releasing Hendricks and Bellinger opens up $19.5 million, giving, next worst case, $56.5 million.

Easily enough to afford Shohei.

My next want would be getting Matt Chapman. I figured he’d cost about $20 million but he’s off to a torrid start and if he keeps it up, is probably out of our range.

In the instance we need the money, I’d be pushing to get Taillon out of here. I have concerns he won’t live up to the $18 million a year as much as any prospect could do for a much cheaper expense.

If they can get something worthwhile for Davis I won’t be mad, but my guess is they’ll look at Davis as the backup corner outfielder and primary DH for 2024, if PCA is ready to take center.

I know we got an above .500 record and all but out of pure boredom since I have a minute, here would be my 2024 team:

C - Gomes/Barnhart (9.25 Million)
1B - Mancini/Mervis (7ish Million)
2B - Hoerner (11.5 Million)
3B - Chapman (25 Million)
SS - Swanson (25 Million)
OF - Happ/PCA/Davis/Suzuki ($42 Million)
Util - Morel/Madrigal

SP - Ohtani ($50 Million)
SP - Stroman (21 Million)
SP - Steele
SP - Wesneski
SP - Brown/Wicks

Puts you at $190 million pre-arbitration and not counting at bullpen. You’d have $47 million to address those areas

I'm guessing Ohtani is a DH in this, too, which is awesome.
