I heard Webster City was asking residents to watch their usage today.

Dear Webster City Residents,

Only those north of Main St. and east of 4th st are allowed to use their George Foreman grills today. We will be rotating the quadrants over the next few days to make sure each resident has access to delicious indoor grilled meats.

Sincerely,

Mayor of Webster City

Yeah, hoping that doesnt hit midamerican here or we're in for a world of hurt.

LES(Lincoln Electrical System) is a part of SPP(Southwest Power Pool). Some of western and nw Iowa is also. It runs from Oklahoma up to the Canadian border through Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakota's. My wife's brother lives in Omaha and they are a part of SPP also and they haven't been affected yet. Since SPP ordered LES to do the rolls......I would think unless they order other local utilities the same it won't happen.

Might be a dumb question but do texas residences have heating systems?
Yea. Usually electric heat. don't do you any good right now.

But a huge issue is the water pipes. Apartments may be fine but lots of people have the water come in the garage.

I haven't heard anything from Mid-American yet, but local coops have been put on notice for rotating power outages to shed load in North Central and Western Iowa at minimum. Time to shut down appliances.

I think some of those areas might be under SPP.

It's officially starting to get cold in my apartment now. I know you're not supposed to drink but I cracked one open. Don't know what else to do. Got my longjohns on and a sweater.

Might pull out my zero degree sleeping bag for the night. Already called off work tomorrow

What's the point of rolling blackouts and conserving power when it's -10 outside? Yeah sure I'll shut off my heat and freeze, sounds like a solid plan.

Nowhere and Everywhere
Have an ex coworker in Texas that is slowly building towards panic mode based on the tone of his social media posts. This is the same person that can’t comprehend people dying, etc when extreme heatwaves hit northern places and other severe weather and has at times mocked some of the news stories on social media. People are rightfully showing true concern and empathy for their family at the moment. His past social media posts aren’t aging well.
