MLB: ***Official 2018 Chicago Cubs Season Thread***

Hopefully everything is OK with Pat Hughes. He's been missing a lot of time lately.
I picked a bad night to listen in from the garage while working on a project.

His replacement tonight (what’s his name?) was brutal. It’s usually all I can do to power through the 5th inning when Pat takes his mid game break.

Hopefully it was just an off day with 23 games in a row at the tale end of the season. He had throat surgery a couple years back. Hopefully all is well.

I believe he took last Thursday off as well, so it's been a couple of games in the last week.

Pat takes at least one game off against the Mets every year as a tribute to Ronnie and how much he hated them.

Reminds me of a clip from "This Old Cub" where a listener sent Ron and Pat a letter saying something along the lines of "Ron, I met the most wonderful women. We share so much in common and have so much fun together. I've never been happier in my life. There's only one problem: she's a Mets' fan. Ron, what should I do?"

Ron: "Dump her"

Just came across this article... https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...-joe-maddon-dave-roberts-aj-hinch/1102815002/

Some quotes:
Joe Maddon helped lead the Chicago Cubs to the Holy Grail of sports, with a consistent level of success they haven’t seen in a century, but there are whispers his job could be in jeopardy if they don’t play deep into October.

Maddon wants to continue managing, but if the Cubs fail to make the playoffs, or go out quickly, his fate is tenuous, several baseball executives told USA TODAY on the condition of anonymity. The executives did not want to speak publicly about Maddon's situation.

Any talk of not having Joe Maddon on the bench next year is crazy to me. To have a winning % for all those bad Rays teams is amazing.

The guy is a big thinker and loves to tinker and that rubs people for some reason.

Meathead public doesn't exactly love smart people. It's weird.
If we were to let Maddon go for any reason other than voluntary retirement, we would really deserve another 100 years of failure.

That said, it's an old Cubs thing to do. These guys are better than that.

But those "My Kid Can Beat Up Your Honor Student" bumper stickers are so quaint!

3 straight NLCS appearances and a looonnngggg-awaited World Series victory? You don't let him go. Not now.

Walked in a run and then managed a force out but another run scores. 6-0 Reds but still not out of the 2nd.
