Question for the inside baseball experts...what's the future for Bote?

My fandom is basically that I listen to nearly every game on radio but rarely follow the farm system, draft or trades until I hear a new guy announced coming into the game. For example yesterday I listened to the entire game on the radio at work but had no idea who Mills was when he started, even if Pat had previously mentioned him I probably forgot about it.

Even someone like myself can see Bote's value must be absolutely skyrocketing. What do the Cubs do with that, if anything?

He’s potentially Ben Zobrist without the switch hitting. He can play any position on the field well.

As for his place on the Cubs, it might be time to move Addison Russell. His development at the plate has completely stalled since the domestic violence allegations and eventual divorce. Change of scenery might help, but I don’t think he’s just that good. We could also see La Stella traded too. La Stella is an every day player on most teams. Bote would take either of those infield spots.

What I’d like to see in 2019
C - Contreras / Caratini
1B - Rizzo
2B - Bote / Zobrist / La Stella
SS - Javy / Bote
3B - Bryant / Bote / La Stella
LF - Schwarber
CF - Almora / Happ
RF - Heyward / Zobrist

I think you have to find a way to keep him, and play him every day. In my eyes, he’s a great clubhouse guy, and he hits the ball hard. Doesn’t strike out a ton. More valuable, from a “keep” perspective than a guy like Happ, for example.

I love Bote, but he can’t play SS.

3rd? Yes
2nd? Maybe?
LF/RF? Should.

I think Joe has proven that the whole roster can play LF.
So much of this comes down to KB's recovery and what Happ/Schwarber can put together as long-term options (here or elsewhere). Each of those guys probably has a higher ceiling than Bote, but Bote could be hugely valuable as the glue guy on a team full of superstars like Bryant, Rizzo, Baez, potentially Contreras, and maybe Harper (if that happens).

If Harper is coming, we need to clear some space anyway. If Happ and/or Schwarber can bring a solid starter, keep Bote and we can figure out whether he or KB play left later.
