What's the low-down on Jeter? Stats were very below average but he was a huge recruit. What's the reasoning for his transfer?

Kane didn't come to ISU with a clean slate. Maybe a change of scenery to Focustown is exactly what he needs.

True, though Fred and Steve seem to have different expectations of the players. Fred seemed more open minded. Not saying that made a difference with Kane though, as it sounds like he made himself into a different guy rather than being pushed to be a different guy.

He did have back surgery, but he was mostly a flop for as high rated as he was. He slid to the bottom of their rotation and was recruited over as well so he wouldn't be seeing much time going forward at Duke. He's still valuable to the right team, but he may be more of a project than first thought especially on defense.

I do agree that there is likely some transfers Fred took that Prohm probably would have passed on for sure, and it wouldn't be because he passed on their talent, right, wrong or indifferent.

Agree. It's on the players to make the the change, and the problem is, you really don't know if they have until into the season.

BDJ, similar situation, and I know he had some nice games as a Cyclone, but I think it's safe to say he didn't buy in like Kane did. Similar type of player, similar situation, but different outcome.

I just don't see Prohm taking a guy with a past like BDJs. Especially after he went through the headaches of McKay. Although I would say that turned out okay, and I think Prohm got through to him, at least some, so who knows maybe if the situation was right, and the player said the right things, maybe he would try it.

Did Kane put up "crazy numbers" at Marshall? I think he did ok jumping up to the Big 12 level.

Kane also was 25 wasn't he? He had gone to prep school and redshirted, before ever playing at Marshall so he was essentially a junior the first time he stepped on the floor. He was much more mature, physically and mentally than most transfers you're going to get.

Part of that was because Prohm had the luxury of having talent stockpiled, Fred was in a "get the most talented guys he could mode", he wasn't worried about where they played. Thanks to Fred, Prohm gets to be a bit more picky, that can be a positive and negative. Fred took some risks and they basically all worked out.

What do you mean by open minded? Shoot whenever, no need to play D, practice if you want, or do you mean giving him a second chance?

Is Chase Jeter going to be someone this staff pursues? I think he has a ton of upside and sitting out a year could help teach him some things and humble his ego. I would definitely be happy if we landed this guy.

Here is what a duke fan said on reddit

I liked Jeter's potential-- still do-- but he had basically all four of Coach K's pet peeves for big men: Can't catch the ball. Wouldn't rotate on D. Weak rebounder for his size. Bad fouls. The fact that Antonio Vrankovic, a 3-star that came in the same year as Jeter, passed him in the rotation really says a lot.

Jeter saw next year coming-- he'd be getting minutes behind Carter, behind Vrank, and, if he returns, behind Bolden. As a junior, you don't want to be the fourth big off the bench-- or even the third, really-- if you have aspirations of being a potential pro somewhere. So I can't blame him for leaving at all.

I hope that he develops those current weaknesses and makes the most of the rest of his career. If he does end up going to Nevada, Musselman's got a very talented raw prospect to try to shape over the next three years, which would be great for his program. Best of luck to them both.

Someone also pointed out that his back problem may never go away.
