Nick Babb

Not the offseason for honor before victory, the lesser brother, or another Custer IMO.

Quick thread derailment: Custer isn't bad people. He played one season behind arguably the best PG in the country and fell behind because of mono. I hate to see people keep ragging on a player who helped contribute to the team while also being a pretty cool guy from having a couple talks in KC during the tournament.

Back on point: If Nick Babb can help the team, Fred will take him, and if he can't, he won't. So there's really nothing to argue here except wait and hear what happens Saturday.

Not saying we shouldn't take him, but he wouldn't even be getting discussed if his name wasn't Babb? That said, I am interested like many of you are at least in exploring the possibility.

Thats the case with a lot of recruits, though. You have some sort of inside connection to get the ball rolling.

What if our connection to Nick Babb was that a coaches wife used to babysit him. People would be freaking out that our "only" reason for recruiting him was a babysitting connection.

I just hope he comes so we can spoon eat after 3's again for a few years :)

I don't care if he was mocking Babb, that **** was funny.

From the AR board link courtesy of Doc:

I have sat on this for several weeks, but now will report that I and a few other DFW fans went over to the BBQ place Nick's dad runs (just west of downtown Dallas) for a game in Feb. It was a Saturday early afternoon game and the place wasn't very crowded (I believe they do more business at night on weekends, when they host jazz music), so his father sat down and watched the game with us.

He was friendly, but I got the vibe then that Nick might well transfer after the season. According to the Dad, Nick was always hearing that he was their best defender and was doing very well in practices, only to sit on the bench all game (well, he frequently got in very, very late in games that were decided) while others played. I even asked if he (the Dad) thought Nick might transfer after the season, and his response was "that's up to him".

Another issue that came up was that Nick and Jabril Durham had played against each other a few times in their HS years, since both are from the DFW area. It was clear that Mr. Babb couldn't understand why Jabril was playing so much more than Chris. I am not going to pretend that I know who should or should not have been playing, but I can only guess that it had to do with JD's 2 years of Juco ball in comparison to it being Nick's first year of adjustment to college basketball. Anyway, that seemed to be one of the burrs under the saddle.

If I had ever known, I forgot that Nick's older brother Chris played recently at Iowa State. Coincidentally, the Cyclones were playing a game at the same time the Arkansas game was on, and it was on a screen at the restaurant as well. It was clear that Mr. Babb has great respect for their coach and program. He seemed ambivalent about Mike (Anderson). Also, the older son started out at Penn State, then transferred to Iowa State. So Nick has seen this scenario play out before, and work well for his brother.

As I said, not surprised. Kinda expected it, after that conversation. But I didn't want to report any of this, lest a whirlwind of rumor pop up around the kid. Better to just let it play out.

I will say I'm also disappointed, because I think now that he's dipped his toe into some games, and would have a full year of D1 practices under his belt, there is a good chance he would have emerged into a really nice player for us next season. Guess we'll never find out.

I wish the young man well, and hope he finds what he's looking for at his next stop.

On that board there seems to be a lot more of "I'm really disappointed, this kid will be good" then there is of "Who cares, he will never amount to anything" - for what it is worth.

Included are several good references to his defense - some saying the best defender on the team - a team that is all about defense, I might add.

If Iowa State can get Nick Babb, you all will be very happy! The kid is probably more athletic than his brother! He's just as good on defense as Chris. They called him "Babb Island" in high school and AAU. Nick has a very high bball IQ and he can jump out the gym. I hope he commits this weekend.

Living in Arkansas I can vouch that the fans are bummed, feeling was he was going to be a major contributor. He looked great in the 12 minutes he played against Georgia (and was the difference maker in turning the momentum back Ar's way) and there was a lot of frustration that he still didn't get minutes after proving himself in that game. Kid has great potential, so I will be excited if he can join the good guys!

The last game Custer played he did fine. Cannot say the same for some others. The worst performance by past players was KJ Bluford and his shot puts from mid court.

Im actually pretty excited bout him possibly coming here. A year off to work on his game and bulk up a little bit too wont hurt.

From the AR board Jared72404 comes off as a prophet:

No one seems to realize the amount of variance in college basketball though (which can explain a 15 year period of bad basketball). UK could lose to Wisconsin next game, and that would have nothing to do with how good they are, its one game.

It will be interesting to see if Fred offers Nick a scholly at or after his visit. It would sure be nice to have opposing players on "Babb Island" again if what some say about his defense is true.

You realize Cliff Alexander is going to get drafted because of his HS ranking, not because of what he did at Kansas right?

haven't read this thread, but browsing this page, this is one of the dumbest things I have read. Bunch of NBA scouts sitting around going over the HS ranking sheet. Hmmmm yep this guy was number 9 overall in 2014, I guess we should take him. Duhhhhh
