I’m pretty sure the roster is 15 with Kelderman and we probably bring in two so unless we have no walk ons I think we’ll be over your estimation

I’m a little confused by your phrasing and maybe you are saying this but I’m not totally sure.

I don’t believe there is a roster cap limit as some college teams have 16 or 17 players. Next year the rosters will cap at 15, regardless of scholarships. Every player can have a scholarship, not everyone will. This year, and going forward into next year, we won’t have more than 13 scholarship basketball players from what Brent has indicated, but regardless, can’t have more than 15 total players.

Mildly relevant, but the scholarship limit rules are especially helpful for baseball players. Currently the 40 man roster splits 11 scholarships. New rules cap the roster at 34, but everyone could get a full ride.

No wonder kids sign when they’re drafted high enough. Why play in college for a partial scholarship?
Most high draft picks are probably full ride. And in the case of private schools like Stanford, Vandy, TCU, etc.- if the baseball coach wants a kid bad enough, the NCAA scholarship limit is kind of meaningless.

Baseballs interesting because kids out of high school that are high draft picks don’t even go to college. There will be a lot of performance based scholarships I bet because kids eventually work there way towards being high draft picks after a few years

I would hope by his rs sophomore year he’s ready for the Chatfield type role. If he can’t be that next year he’s not going to cut it.
As pointed out, he was an early enroll and in reality, its his red shirt freshman year age/development wise.

I think the key is going to be how ready Pleta is. If he is they may stay away from a transfer post and let Jefferson fill that roll when necessary to open more minutes for Pleta. Plus you’d still have Rock for emergencies. If not bring in a post and let Rock try to earn some minutes.
But Pleta doesn't get here until summer. They will need to portal shop before then.

Brent said if we added the 2 scholarships it’d have to be added on the women’s side of athletics too, so it’s not happening
Hmmm, probably true, but....

...on average the payoff in wins and losses for a couple of extra scholarships may be the highest in mens and women basketball.

Agreed. I think people see “RS SO” and forget he enrolled a full year earlier than typical.

Dude is a 7 ******* feet tall and still a teenager. I think he will be a contributor at some point, but next year seems early.
Eligibility remaining is more important than his age in regards to his chances to make a major impact

If he’s not ready to be a 14 minute/gm backup next year (Chatfield) as a rs Sophomore, it is difficult to see him starting as a Junior. Particularly factoring in that him not being ready as a sophomore means we’ll likely add another player he’ll have to beat out.

IMO it’s plausible that even if he doesn’t fill Chatfield’s role next season, but can be the backup 5 as a junior, that he has a big impact as a 22 year old senior. At which point, he’ll have lost out on a big payday by not having another year

This thread makes my head hurt.

Why do so many post like we have some incompetent coaching staff, when in reality they have put together phenomenal rosters 4 years in a row, and have the most talented recruiting class in ISU history on their way to campus in 5 months.

I bet our staff already knows the transfers we will have a very good shot at landing - today.

You want another big? How about a 6’10” 21 yr old from Germany already playing pro ball, is that ok with everyone?

Why all the hand-wringing, we will be a preseason top 15 team again, because that’s what TJ does.

This. It is very rare for a guy to go from have no contribution to playing meaningful minutes.

Agree, but as we’ve seen with Watson, playing zero minutes in blowouts against buy games doesn’t necessarily mean a player is far from being able to contribute

If we end up signing another 5, or Pleta/Jefferson back up Jackson, Rock could still be capable of being a rotation quality big as a sophomore, despite not being in the rotation

We need a guard in the portal that can create his own shot and be a legitimate threat from 3. Losing Gilbert and Jones is a huge loss for us.

I think we’d still be top 25 caliber with who we have returning but need someone at that 2 spot if we want to be top 10 like we are now.
Let us go out and get Jizzle James to fill that role. I believe that Nojus will either play next season or he will take the Omaha Billew path.

Why does a team need a 15 man roster when they only play 8 per game? Who is in charge of these lame rules? All this creates is more recruitment expense, more transfers, more NIL expense, more coaching needs, and more scholarship expense. Might as well go with NBA minutes per game.
I've heard that Bob Huggins is tempted to come out of retirement. He can't resist having 10 more scholarship fouls to give each game.

Fennelly often wasn't using the scholarships he had at his disposal before. Having scout team players on scholarhip isn't such a big deal when you have male scout team players to play against every practice.

Its a message board, we are allowed to discuss the details of how we think our competent coaching staff will form next years roster.

Does Jones have another year with the JUCO ruling? Or is that not a done deal. Would have to think WeWill could open up the check book to keep him
