I know this has definitely been discussed but who is definitely done after this year and who is eligible or potentially eligible to come back next year? I know gilbert is gone and Curtis is likely gone barring a lucky extra year granted but not for sure about everyone else.

Plus limits expand to 15 next your so even with five coming in we still have one available. That said I bet we add a big guard and a replacement for Chatfield

I'll be so glad when the COVID year is no longer a factor which gets confusing figuring out who still has the option for an extra season. Next season should be the very last of those right?

Does Heise still have a year left? I know he played 4 at UNI before this but 1 season he only played 2 games so guess that means he has a COVID year left still. Jackson has a COVID year left after this one and Jones is like Gilbert, both were freshman in 21-22 so they don't qualify for the COVID year and only get 4 to play.

Outside of losing Gilbert, Jones, and Chatfield you have to assume at least someone is likely to try the transfer portal too. Would hate to lose Watson but he'd probably be getting much more playing time at a mid-major if that is something he wants to try. Hope he stays but would not blame him if he didn't. Fish already tried the portal last year and surprisingly came back but don't see him being any more than an end of the bench guy here so maybe he tries the portal again?

Haven't seen enough of Rock yet to know how he is going to fare going forward. He definitely has the size but I don't know if he has the athleticism to be the kind of player Chatfield has been for us. He's still pretty raw and this is technically his true freshman year after he was basically a HS senior last year as a redshirt. Maybe he takes a step forward in his development this offseason and carves out more than an end of the bench role eventually. The challenge is you either got it or you don't with TJ's system. TJ locks down an 8 man rotation by late December so if you don't earn that spot before conference play you likely won't see the floor unless there is an injury or foul problems and then he goes 9 deep with someone like Watson or Nojus this year. I think finding another big man in the transfer portal will be a priority as this freshman class doesn't really have one other than Pleta that they just signed and I wouldn't expect him to contribute immediately. TJ has done a good job at plugging in the holes in the roster through the portal so I'm not worried about filling whatever needs we'll have.

Hopefully ROCK can be the replacement for Chatfield, no?
I can see this happening. Rock has worked hard to bulk up. If he can hold his own defensively I think he can be an asset offensively. His shot is good enough to hit an occasional three. Can you imagine how that threat opens up options elsewhere?

We need a guard in the portal that can create his own shot and be a legitimate threat from 3. Losing Gilbert and Jones is a huge loss for us.

I think we’d still be top 25 caliber with who we have returning but need someone at that 2 spot if we want to be top 10 like we are now.

Heise and Jackson are in the same situation - this is their 5th (COVID) year, but they both have a medical redshirt to play a 6th season. It seems that both are expected to take it.

as was mentioned, Gilbert and Chatfield are out of eligibility for sure - and Curtis likely is, unless something funky happens with the JUCO stuff.

Lipsey, Jefferson and Watson will be "true" 4th-year seniors in their last year.

With the transfer portal the way it is, it's pretty pointless to speculate on who stays and who leaves at this point - other than there will very likely be significant turnover.

Given next year's team will likely start the season as a Top 10 team, there will be some urgency to make sure spots are filled - specifically a backup big and an experienced combo guard. Basically someone in the Chatfield/Hasan Ward role and someone in the Keshon/Curtis role.

It's going to be a wild offseason. With key players like Gilbert and Chatfield likely gone, finding that dependable guard and backup big is critical.

I think the key is going to be how ready Pleta is. If he is they may stay away from a transfer post and let Jefferson fill that roll when necessary to open more minutes for Pleta. Plus you’d still have Rock for emergencies. If not bring in a post and let Rock try to earn some minutes.

Regardless an alpha scoring big guard is a must. I’m not sure Heise is what you want starting unless he finds his shot. Who knows maybe one of the freshmen are too good to sit but I don’t think you count on that.

I reiterate, Nojus is as big as Heise, can handle, and had impressive high school stats. I'm hoping he's ready to play next year. A pg or combo will probably be needed to backup Tamin.
