New Vacation movie

Apparently they can't think up new movie ideas anymore, have to remake old ones like this and Mad Max.

Don't blame Hollywood. Blame the saps who can't venture out to see a movie about a new idea, but are drooling all over themselves, waiting in line to see Avengers 2, another version of spiderman, Batman or Superman.

Saps? Going to movies is entertainment. People are going to choose the entertainment that will bring them the most pleasure. If people love super hero movies, they'll go see super hero movies. If people love independent art films, they'll go see independent art films. Doesn't make them saps.

Agree. I love big dumb action movies and I love independent films. I love all sorts of genres.

Im not a prude by any means but I miss when comedy could be really funny without tons of swearing, over the top disgusting or sexual comments.

Comedy now just seems lazy.

And thats the thing, its absolutely lazy. Its not hard to write gross and then can pump a million of such movies out each year because of it.

It's hard to blame Hollywood when we're the ones who keep shelling out money to see the drivel it produces. That's like criticizing Subway for making ****** sandwiches rather than the billions of people who keep them in business by eating there.

A good way to get better movies is to stop paying for crappy ones.

You guys want to know the best thing about movie and entertainment in general? If you don't like the trailer or think you won't like it, you don't have to see it.

Why is it lazy, though? If thats what sells, its not lazy, it smart. If you want to make money, you write a movie that is going to make money. If you're in it for the artistic aspect, then you don't have to make decisions about money.

Don't act like its a new thing though. Two of my favorite movies of all time and two of the best comedies of all time are Blazing Saddles and Airplane. Blazing Saddles has an entire scene devoted to a fart joke, jokes about rape, racism and all kinds of outrageous stuff, but its done well. Airplane has topless women, human excrement, drug use, allusions to pedophilia, abortion.

I wouldnt compare those two classics with any of the garbage out now.

I've added a "watch at flix brewhouse with a few beers" tier that's right above redboxing it; i think this movie probably fits that bill

Saw Avengers at the Des Moines brewhouse last weekend. Awesome experience that I wish we had here in town.

Completely agree. Blazing Saddles is a hall of fame movie. And Airplane is right up there. It's essentially slapstick, sure, but that's what makes me laugh my *** off.

But how many people say they like eating at Subway??? I can't think of anybody I know who does. But somebody must be eating there? Who are these people?!? :realmad:

Agree, sorry, I chose my wording incorrectly. I was thinking more of the people who buy into the hype of a movie (any movie), rather than actually researching other movies they might enjoy. I didn't mean to bash those who actually enjoy the genre.

Sorry, I have a co-worker, that all he's been talking about is how great the new Avengers movie is. Even though he hasn't seen it yet and calls me the idiot for not getting into super hero movies.

I wasn't comparing their quality, I'm just saying even classic comedies have plenty of bathroom/inappropriate humor. They just do it really well.

I have no problem of them continuing a classic that i grew up with. At least they are not "re-making" the movie, just continuing the story line with Russ being the main character now.

Not much different than Star Wars, who continues to build on the same story line - again that is a movie series that i grew up with and can't wait for the next.

Chris Hemsworth as Audrey's beefcake hubby, I'm sure there's a few jokes in that.
