To be fair, it seemed from the article like he was the one Very, Very, Very Interested in UT. It sounded like to me, he went and met with Strong and saw the place because he was in the area and Strong recruited him out of HS, while at Louisville. Not that he was going on a true visit. That was just how I took it though. Either way, great pick up for CMC and the staff! they get me more and more excited by the day. That's what I'd like to know. As of May 16th we weren't even mentioned. He was visiting the Texas schools and was very, very high on UT. What the heck?

This almost makes me wonder if somebody currently in the secondary has beefed up to about 215 and is moving to linebacker, or if maybe coaches think Mackenro has got up to about 210-215 and can slide up (he played at 5'11 205 last year).
I am only thinking this way because we sure do have a lot of numbers in the secondary.
Based on the highlights, looks like Mackenro played in the box a lot during high school.

We need numbers in the secondary. Have you watched Big 12 football?
Have YOU ever watched Big 12 football? Where you NEED to also have good pass defending linebackers in this league on top of a good secondary, which i think we have.
Peavy, Tribune, Cotton-Moya, Jay Jones, and Wiltz are all guys who have already contributed who are D-Backs, not to mention Payne, Daniels, and Mike Johnson who the coaches have raved about. All of those on top of younger guys who could step up before Spring.
I think we can afford to have a player moved to linebacker if that's what the thought is here. We already know we need numbers a little more desperately at linebacker.

I think we're going to find out that there isn't much difference between some linebackers and some secondary guys. There's gunna be your obvious LBs like Harvey and Seely, and obvious secondary, like CBs Tribune and FS KMC, but then there will be a group of Jones, Payne, Alexander, etc that are hybrids. Think Hoiball, Campbell is going to put the talent out there that can compete. I don't think he cares what your position is, and it should work fine in the Big 12, where majority of the offenses are spread.
IMO, D'Andre Payne is less of a hybrid and more of a CB that has the ability to play safety as well.
