Jeremy could get this info for you in the morning, I'm sure. I really don't understand how that's the point of this discussion, though? I don't mean that in a bad way - I just want this matter to be put to bed. As Jeremy said, please just don't post stuff from other sites. He is not a full-time site administrator, so he doesn't have the time to verify every post on this site (as much as we'd all like it). This is the most active Cyclone board around (in terms of number of posts alone, which is easier to quantify), which would make this a huge undertaking even if he didn't have a full-time job. We don't want to break the contracts you have w/other sites, as I'm sure they would also appreciate.
It's relevant because I believe he implied that this site has a large group that reads this site constantly and I think that is a disingenuous implication. Now if that was not his intention, I misunderstood and would equally ask what the total number of registered members has to do with the point of this discussion? I guess if I'm not an admin one number about registration over another is more important. Sarcasm intended.

I apologize if that sounded like a pointed comment - it wasn't. I was talking more in theory - I didn't mean to sound like it was any sort of attack on you or your post, if it came across that way. I appreciate your sarcasm, but didn't mean to illicit it.
You are correct - I know (just based off of my Buddy List) that there are a large volume of visitors at any time who do not post, but are just viewing. From people's longevity vs. post count, you can tell that there are many people who have been on for a long time with few posts. I wasn't boasting about the post count at all - I really don't care. I was just saying that there are so many that it's too much for Jeremy to be checking every post as it is posted while he has so many other responsibilities. That was the only point I wanted to make - I was imploring people to use their best judgment when posting.
Angie, I've been around a bit. I don't spend a lot of time here, but do like many of the discussion. I have zero issues with this site. I have zero issues with any thing you said. Cjohn felt the need to repeat himself, but again. I perceived an implication of by stating there are 4100+ members as something special because it also implied activity in the 1000. I don't believe any of the sites actually see thousands. Like said, my perception may have been wrong.
3 Cyclone sites are a good thing and I think my original point about how to monitor the 'inside' info threads would be helpful and would not require only Jeremy's confirmation these people are not posting private info. If the rule is they should make a vague declaration of where the info comes from or people do get it from a CR/CN member.. just be honest. Frankly, if it came 2nd hand from a member, I wouldn't advocate deletion unless it became hibitual.

I do think the "just be honest" policy is a great idea. I know a lot of people put a "Just reported on cyclones.com" blurb or whatever on their posts, and I think that's a fantastic idea. It really helps us all not have this same conversation ever again, too. :biggrin9gp:
Lots of info is taken from many sources = advertising from CR/CN emails, free periods when sites are open, local newspapers, friends who belong to sites, kids who are relatyed to people in the know, talk shows when Jeremy Crabtree etc pop on, pther people in other states such as texas, friends, relatives, co workers, message boards on apremium sites which have leadin uinfo, partial stories on free section of premium website, googled articles, other schools on premium free section, free databases, and additional free info on paid websites.
When Mike made the link to the recruit in first item of this thread, that was FREE Info. It was not premium. It was behind no firewall. It was free to entice you to join the premium website. Your choice. This website is a choice.
If a player makes a verbal commitment, it will only be 24 hours before it is blasted around earth. Jeremy in the past has said he is not trying to oneupmanship the premium sites as he respects them. He also has every right to announce new recruits when all other sources are blasting the same message. That is why he breaks stories slightly later than paid premium. I should repeat that for those who cannot read, but I digress.
We know Paul and Deace would love to see less competition that was free, but they need to get on with their lives too. Paul and Deace are taking limited money from each other in the end. Jeremy's site is free. It is not in competition for the dollar. Maybe the people are paying too much money to premium ($100/yr) for 25 football recruits and 3-5 basketball recruits. Yet that is the choice of the day.
I do not see premium video posted much here. Obviously, if it is posted, it is free to see. I do not see the original content of premium message boards. I do not see the in depth stories of each recruit. Infact, I do not see anything posted here that was blatantly stolen. My god, do the premium members know what is premium info and what is loaded as free? Those allusions that something is crooked because the stories are broken just after the premium breaks the stories is just what Mod has said - no one is working the switchboard every hour just to break stories first. It is fun to do it, but Jeremy and other are not being paid to do it. His real salary is already going towards keeping the board up and running.
I am continually surprised about the inane level of accusations being made against posting people. Some of the comments seem quite childish, almost premium like. Personally, I am glad that Jeremy has taken on the website challenge and persists against constant "robbing the cradle" accusations by those who think they are being ripped by this website after they just read similar on a paid website. Obviously, there are some real big leakers working the cyclone staff and office for the stories to be rolling around so fast and furious. And someone asked why do MODs close threads, just reread this thread. For the complainers, if you think you have a problem, go visit Husker Red and their links. They appear to all get along just fine. They are just happy to be Husker fans in the end. Ask Garn 91 and NUFollower. If we are going to be top level in sports, our website commenters should also act like top level. Yes, I wrote this long enough so I will not be quoted. Signing off.

All that aside - it is 4000 members and 100-200 average active at one time. This is probably comparable to the premium sites. I have not seen much difference between the three websites. One is free and two are paid. Pretty much the same topics of discussion. And plagarism is not encouraged by jeremy in any form.

Oh brother, well done on supporting the irregular mod work right now, but if you insist. I took your thread in response to the complete discussion of numbers. The original statement that started this debate was "This site has thousands and thousands of members, and it is just plainly a fact that the info is going to get leaked." That implies these 1000's are actually active on a regular basis. There is not other way to take that. 1000's just reading can post nothing. For you to support that with the actual number when it was questioned opens you up to the criticism I gave you about doing the same as the original poster. Again, embellishing the potential number of people that may actually being posting. Again, for the third time, if that was not your intent my perception was WRONG. I'm not going to apologize for that perception though.. maybe that's what you were digging for?

Thought I'd put my two cents in after reading this p*ssing match about premium info and the like.
I don't (and can't) dispute the fact that there can be many sources or that you can use little bits of free info from many sites to find out things. That being said, I think it is pretty reckless and unfair to throw out accusations against others charging them with improprieties. Some would call it "slander".
I think the frustration lies with the fact that some are paying $100 per year to get inside info and feedback from other Cyclone fans on premium sites. To be honest, I think that the premium sites aren't really doing as good a job as previously. Cyclone Nation (at least on the non-premium side) has info that is seriously outdated and pretty dead message boards. Cyclone Report has changed their policy also, concerning their free message boards. They also haven't been really breaking a lot of new "news". I would have to think that their site traffic is down as well. And there isn't really a lot of feedback from the average Cyclone fan.
This site has a bunch of feedback from a multitude of fans, many contributing bits and pieces of info and thoughts and "news" that they might have heard. I appreciate this site and the ability to interact with my fellow Cyclones. And it is "free from fee" to boot.
I think we have some frustrated CR and CN premium subscribers who aren't getting a lot of bang for their buck. And they are lashing out at people because of this frustration.
