This has been such a weird deal. Does anyone else think that the person or people responsible were people that likely had previous access to the house like a landscaper or gardener? Unfortunately the poor old lady is almost certainly dead. I would be surprised if it was just totally random people.

My money is on Col. Mustard in the Conservatory.

In all seriousness, agree it’s a totally weird story- it sounds like the local sheriff and the Feds are tripping over themselves to fumble the investigation

That sheriff is not too on the ball. Ya I'll be surprised if she's still alive. There's been way too much media coverage on this. Sorry that she's missing but she is no more important than anyone else who's been abducted.

Are all the good FBI agents gone or what? This investigation reminds me of something some rural Iowa county sheriff's office would do. Their handling of this is almost as sad as the crime. It does sound like they have the guys DNA now so I'm pretty optimistic he's gonna be caught soon. Probably the pool boy. Whoever it is clearly isn't very bright.

Agree that sadly she is probably no longer alive. Has to be very tough on family.

Tough to watch a lot of media coverage. They characterize any minor occurrence of investigation as MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH. And media is scrounging for any former FBI or forensic person they can find. I've stayed at a Holiday Inn, surprised they haven't called me.

Just hope family gets closure and soon.

Yeah, trying to not cave the conversation, I think a lot of the more experienced agents have left or been pushed out in the last twelve months or so. It will be interesting when they finally do a Dateline/48 Hours type show on this whole thing. I think having the perp’s DNA is going to solve this thing soon. Whoever did this has never done something like this before, and it’s showing at this point.

Bright enough to get away with it for 2 weeks!

In the end, it will be interesting if it was:
  1. A kidnapping & ransom demands are legit.
  2. A kidnapping gone wrong and Nancy Guthrie passed early on. And ransom demands are misdirect by kidnappers
  3. A kidnapping gone wrong. And ransom demands are from random people trying to cash in
  4. A burglary and Nancy died during burglary and for some reason they took body.
It also wouldn't surprise me in she was taken across border early on.

Yeah this was a lousy planned crime for sure. I just think it's probably some broke landscaper or gardener who was familiar with her and the property.

I feel like shes probably dead somewhere not too far from her house. I don't know how you'd get her across the border. I can't wait to hear all the details about this

I think the local police need to ask the FBI to investigate. And unless I am mistaken that didn't happen until 2 days after the discovery. From what I read the local police said after just one day the house was no longer a crime scene and said it's okay for people to start coming back. Then it was once again off limits the next day when the FBI arrived. Sounds like the locals sort of screwed the pooch early on this one.

This whole thing is stupid…. I wish our national media would cover something important.

I hate she’s missing and feel terrible for the family and friends obviously… just like I would for ANYONE in this position, but it’s beyond stupid how much coverage this has gotten.

I agree, and the way it is being covered lessens the human impact somehow. It's like there's a glowing billboard on every story that flashes "we're trying to make this into the Lindberg baby or the OJ Bronco chase". It's sad.

Agree totally. The local Barney Fife (sheriff for you pups) is a putz. And I feel sorry for the hundred of families with a missing loved one that get little attention or resources.

It's of interest partly because it is so rare. Most abductions are family related. Abductions by strangers for ransom (assumed) are very rare in the USA despite the crime stories featured on 20/20 and Nightline that would lead people to think we are all just a coin flip away from being snatched up by roaming bands of ciminals.

I read this a lot and wonder why people think it was so poor planned? He's been unidentified going into a 3rd week now and we also don't know whole scope yet. I've seen some experts that believe he staged the Nest footage.

In today's world with everything being accessible digitally it's hard to plan something like if not impossible which is a good thing. I wouldn’t underestimate this guy though
