No doubt on interest but I still think it's Savannah Guthries mother that's driving some of this. I didn't realize they define abductions are often family related and kidnappings are typically ransom cases. Either way this guy has crossed his T's and dotted his I's so far. It appears if no ransom was paid she may never be found. Hope not.

When a 40 year old Mexican with multiple gold chains who is muscled up from lifting weights and his 18 year old trophy wife is laying on an adjoining lounge chair and he threatens you in the hot tub at a resort in Puerto Vallarta it gets your attention. Along with all the Federales walking around with AR15's and hand grenades all over PV this also makes you realize that things have changed in Mexico in the past decade. I'm no rookie and if you don't think that a person living in the dark not that far from the Border with a wealthy family member might be a source of income that's your prerogative. I hope it's some no-mind landscaper like you see on the tv show Ozark, who knows, but I'm not going to make any humorous comments about this sad situation.

Why do people go to Mexico for vacation? There are so many other resort destinations in the U.S., Caribbean and Europe.

You're generally safe at resorts. The cartels own them and want them to be safe. Its when you leave the vacation areas that you get into trouble. This thing has zero to do with cartels though.

They don't just go after random people. Especially in the United States. They do not want to go to war with the US government. If they say you owe them you did something to **** them over though. They were only trying to kill her son. They just knew he lived there.

She didn't "live in the dark". People are making it out that she's in some rural area in the middle of nowhere. It's not rural at all.
Kidnappings in the US for ransom are extremely rare even with all the so called dangerous brown people among us. If a Nancy Guthrie type target is so attractive to the cartels, they have tons of easy targets to choose from. Yet I'm not aware of any US celebrity ever having a family member kidnapped by a cartel.
In related news, the movie "Taken" with Liam Neeson is also fictional.
My rambling comment does not include the word cartel, it does indicate that there are more nasty folks openly threatening tourists than in the past. We speculate on the Guthrie situation. IMO, it looks like a single person has taken her and it is unknown whether it is a local person or someone not from the area or as to her current condition or location. The person who took her is either very good about avoiding detection or is very lucky. The ransom demands and procedure of payment were unusual. Anybody who has seen overhead shots of the residential area knows it is not rural. It is designed to be dark with little artificial light at night.
At this point, it’s likely she is deceased and the perpetrators are just trying to avoid capture

I go back and forth but I believe local too. Sounds like they wouldn't of had phone that night and her home was not really easy to get to. They had to know area I think. I've seen photos of couple people detained last Friday. Put a mask on them and they fit what person at door looked like but I'd be suprised if after a raid and taking their vehicle if they were able to clean up all the evidence so it's likely not them.
The ransom demands were haphazard and not constructed well, I think if more than one person was involved that with more input the communication and procedures would have been presented better. Going on three weeks the chance of someone in a group getting nervous and making a mistake would increase, a single person could isolate a lot easier. The longer this goes on makes me think that whatever the plan was it did not play out as expected.
