My issue with the last play

I think the play call was great. Ballsy move by the coaches playing to win.

Here is my main issue. Why, especially in college, do teams have a kicker as the holder? I have never understood this. ISU could have Bueker or Capello as the holder, which most likely would have resulted in an ISU win.

Keep in mind, this isn't really a jab at our coaches specifically, more a question of the general philosophy of having a punter as the holder. I would think you would want someone there who presents the defense with more of a threat on the fake.

Bueker was the holder last year was he not? What changed for this year? I agree with you snowcraig although I don't really care if it is a junior high player, that is an easy throw that needs to be made. It wasn't just a bad throw, it was an atrocious throw. But in the end, I'm not mad. Great game, great call, poor execution. It happens

I dont think that is it. Bueker was the holder last year and let's be honest, we don't really need to worry about him getting practice with the offense right now.

Punters handle long snaps every day. Its about reps. I don't think a lot of have the appreciation they should for a holder. Having said all that, I also like QBs as holders.

I'm right with you. My friend was arguing that we should have had Arnaud holding, I disagreed because that would immediately set red flags off in Nebraska's minds. However I agreed that maybe we should have a backup holding.

Maybe Tiller, that way he can get all the play time that the fans want.

snowcraig2.0-It's a question I hope the staff is asking itself because it makes waaay more sense to use a back up qb as a holder. We've probably got 5 or 6 qb's on the team and we don't need to be getting all of them ready to run the offense on game day. Years ago the starting qb was always was the holder, then it became a back up qb, and now most teams use a punter, and it makes no sense. However some teams use a back up qb, Oklahoma for one.

If I'm a coach my holder will always be a backup QB. Even if we fake it once out of a million times with him holding it.

I always thought it was a good idea to have a QB as a holder, not necessarily just for fakes but also for botched snaps and/or placements that can happen even with good players.

Because the Qbs are busy running the scout team and getting better at QB. What does the back up punter have to besides punt the ball? Doing it this way the kickers can go do their thing and the QBs can do theirs. IMO the PK needs to practice with the same holder he works with in games.


But this play was drawn up for this game, so maybe having a QB as holder the whole game could have been an option.

kingcy- I think we've got 5 or 6 qb's on the roster, and at least a couple are walk ons that will very likely never see the field. One could see the field every game and become valuable in a situation like last night if he was the holder.

Just watched the play for real the first time (I wasn't looking for the extra point at the game). Holy crap, probably should not have watched that play before trying to sleep again. The play was there and it took a pretty good play for the NE guy to stop it. I still love the call and have absolutely no regrets about it. I would want Rhoads to call that play 10 times out of 10. I don't even care about the QB business.....I bet the amount of times DK would be successful on that play and the amount of times a backup QB that hasn't thrown in a game either is pretty much equal.

Another note from the coaches show. I know it gets taped right after the game, but holy crap Paul Rhoads looked like he had been hit repeatedly in the gut. It was almost physically painful just to look at him. Those players feel the same way. I will be really anxious to hear tomorrow how Sunday's practice went. And if by some chance Rhoads is able to get these guys focused and ready for Colorado, I will be beyond impressed. I think we all need to remember how hard that will be. It will take the coaches and team leaders an effort probably 10 times what it took to bounce back after the blowouts. I believe they can do it, but it'll be tough.
