Did some heavy searching yesterday even though the weather has been cold. Still pretty dry in the woods even along the streams I don't see any kind of fungal growth. Anyone having better luck?
Morel Mushrooms?

I'm 45 min east of Des Moines. We've had a half inch of rain for the month of April with no rain in the 10 day forecast. That has to be too dry for morel's
I assume this cold weather doesn't help any. Checked my spots a few times but it's so dry and now cold I wonder if we'll ever see any.
Someone logged a find near LaCrosse. It is moving my way!

What type of tree do they prefer to feed on? I see a lot of downed cedar and walnut which aren't good for anything microbial.

Historically the hunters I knew looked around elms first but since Dutch elm has knocked that population down I don't know of a preferred species.
No, the stem should not protrude into the cap, easier to ID if cut in half, but you can see the stem going into the cap on the one on the right.
