Did some heavy searching yesterday even though the weather has been cold. Still pretty dry in the woods even along the streams I don't see any kind of fungal growth. Anyone having better luck?

Historically the hunters I knew looked around elms first but since Dutch elm has knocked that population down I don't know of a preferred species.What type of tree do they prefer to feed on? I see a lot of downed cedar and walnut which aren't good for anything microbial.
