Almost there in a lot of places. My rule is 55 degrees. Some moisture would go a long way as well.
Since we don't have a player, coach or recruit with the name Morel Mushrooms I think it's only a garden variety sin, not a cardinal sin.
Down here near Centerville there was a lot of moisture (surface) until last week with all the wind. Someone posted the ground temps, thanks.
What does everyone else use when Morel hunting? I like to use a four ten. I’ve found a 12 or 16 gage doesn’t leave much left of the shroom.

We’re gonna need some rain up north. Drier than a popcorn fart here
For sure a pointer. Flushing dogs just spook the Morels too much. They're just harder to track once spooked.
Learned this last week and just makes me like morels more. The thick footed morel species "farms" bacteria in the soil, spreading it around, fertilizing it, then consuming it later. There is a Forbes write up about it but I learned it from the book "Entangled Life", worth a read if you are interested in that stuff.
