Miami Fan Board Nuggets

Fair enough...spoiler alert, a poor man's TTU from the big 12 can still beat the U.

I heard the Miami fans were doing an SEC chant when they beat Auburn so major props to them.

I feel like we could have a great party...ISU brings all the Busch Lite, Miami brings all the cocaine!
Busch lite is disgusting how do you guys drink that crap.

Took a peek at Canes Insight to see what they think of us.

In a nutshell, they seem to respect us but expect to win. They think we are slow, poor on O, and are basically poor man’s Texas Tech. Maybe that’s true.

What scares me is their breakout, transition offense. They blew up Auburn yesterday with counterpunch after counterpunch. KU crushed us in similar fashion at Hilton. Gotta make our shots count and avoid telegraphing passes.
This is true. Only high intensity and not slow but definitely can’t argue that thinking. I’ve thought since we played tech that were a poor man’s version of them. I do think we play with a higher intensity though

Miami's path to victory would probably go one of two ways:

1. They are able to turn us over and get their transition game going so they can get enough easy points outside of the half court.

2. We have one of our terrible jump shooting games and we miss open shot after open shot.
On your second point we can survive a poor jump shooting night, but not when we also miss a ton of bunnies at the rim.

Miami reminds me a more athletic version of Iowa, lots of long, lean kids that want to get out and run. The biggest difference between the two teams is the Miami guards will play some defense, while the EIU guards its optional at best to play defense.

I don’t know how that stuff is calculated, but if we keep throwing lazy azz passes to the wings, we’re going to get our doors blown off. If we make solid, crisp passes, it will be in the 50’s - low 60’s…about where we want it.
65 and below we win. 66+ we lose. (Ignoring OT)

Thinking back on the game - they had that one run in the first half where Davis got a couple transitions baskets and went to the line a couple times and I think Davison made a three. But we recovered and Davis utterly disappeared in the second half. For all his "second half player... let the game come to him" nonsense, he just went away.
I thought so too. There was a couple of possessions midway through the second half where Davis penetrated, got fouled and then hit some free throws. I thought we were going to get a heavy dose of that but that was it. He didn't seem like a guy motivated to take the game over on his shoulders against a great defensive team. Afraid to make mistakes, maybe.

Miami's defense is worse than Iowa's according to Kenpom. Iowa has more height. Miami is a lot quicker.

Yeah I was looking over at their board. One poster said, “We roll”. Another basically told that said poster to have some class because they both got to the sweet sixteen and which deserved their respect. I actually thought the vast majority of the Miami message board posters were very intelligent.

Guys on here have mentioned this and it’s absolutely true, their transition offense has to be some of the best in the country! I hope we stifle that.
Key is no lazy passes and live ball turnovers. When we don't do that, teams have to grind it out in the half court against us, and we usually win.

That is where Im at as well. Miami isnt running 7 footers out there to protect the rim the way LSU and Wisconsin did. Both Hunter and IZB had poor offensive games against Wisconsin. Credit to Wisconsins defense for that. 55 points isnt going to get it done against Miami we will need to (and should) score with more efficiency.

55 will get it done.
