McDermott to Creighton?

Why Creighton go after Greg McDermott? "I am an Iowa boy" won't sell at Creighton.

Yeah but he is a proven recruiter in the talent rich state of NE...witness one Wes Eikmeier. And wasn't one of his first coaching gigs in NE?

Especially since he now probably has to pay the buyout to nurse that it took to get him here (unless he becomes HC, which wouldnt exactly be a great thing either)..
Where are you guys getting this buyout stuff? Almost nobody has a buyout if they leave for another job. And even as good a job as Nurse did in the NBADL I promise you those coaches don't get paid THAT much and they definitely don't have buyouts in their contracts.

I think I get what he means by half way done, we win 14 games a year, half of what he should be?

I don't expect to win 28 games/year but I do expect to win 8-9 games in the Big 12. So one could say that McDermott is only half way done since he's won 18 games in 4 years (average of 4.5/year).

This should put things in perspective. McDermott will need to go 32-0 over the next two seasons just to get up to the .500 mark in the Big 12.

I thought most coaches had buyouts. I know mcdermott does:

VI, 2, B

That said, if someone came calling for McDermott, I would be *shocked* if we didnt at least partially waive that buyout, if not completely waive it altogether.
The part you put in parentheses, is that actually what the contract says or are those your own words? Most coaches DO NOT have buyouts to leave for another job unless it is for one of the school's big rivals (like ISU to Iowa or vice versa).

Just read it on firemcdermott.com, thats my only source on that one. But it makes sense, people have asked why he would leave the job he had for a job with limited job security. Some kind of buyout to make sure he doesnt end up here just one year without some kind of financial reward for that might be convincing enough.

the part in parentheses is the part that ends paragraph 2 of that section, just added it so it would make sense when reading the B) section

I'll help him move if he wants. This would be a win/win for both McD and ISU. If there is a buyout needed by Creighton, ISU would probably waive it or part of it. Creight might have a difficult time finding a head coach, unless they promote an assistant. Look at how long it took Oregon to find a coach.

McD goes to Creighton, he has a chance to salvage his career and we have a shot to salvage our program. It might be wishful thinking, but the slim chance of a possibility has sparked my interest.

As Lloyd Christmas said -"So your saying there's a chance!"

Nurse and Grayer both signed 2-year contracts. Nurse's was for 125 or 135K per year. Sounds like incentive enough for me to take the risk of a job change.

This is wild speculation, but it's not totally crazy to see McDermott taking the vacancy at Creighton now that Altman is going to Oregon. Mac knows the Missouri Valley like the back of his hand, he's won the conference more than once, he's a perfect citizen when it comes to coaches, and might want to get out of Dodge before he's pushed out. Creighton could do a lot worse.

Then Nurse, who just signed a contract with ISU, could get promoted to the head coaching position with a short contract and basically an opportunity to show he can or can't do the job.

I would personally drive to Omaha and shake the hand of the Creighton AD if he took McDermott off our hands and ended this pathetic era of ISU BB.

If this did happen, how big of a kick to the nuts of JP would this be? After he stood by McD and gave him his vote of confidence after 4 awful years, McD bolts at his first chance to get out? That would be priceless.

Similar to a Chizik. An upgrade.:dull:

I have a feeling that the Creighton athletic director has a better understanding of basketball than does our athletic director.

I think he might be relieved actually. It would mean starting over again next year, but ISU is anyway. At least now he would have a better excuse, plus I would bet he would write a better contract this time.

Well, we've already determined that $2,500,000.00 is too much for us to get rid of him. I guess that means that somewhere around $1,000,000.00 to $1,300,000.00 would be "contributed" to Creighton's athletic department by "an anonymous Central Iowa donor" to help pay for GMac's relocation costs and the first year of his contract. :jimlad:
