MBB Struggles

We don't have an elite head coach. He's hired great assistants that have carried him, but when they can't figure it out they have nowhere to turn. Its been obvious for a while now. Green and the defense is why he have had the success we've had. I like TJ and think he's a good coach but he's not elite.

This is really dumb. But it’s also okay to critique TJ and staff’s game planning abilities. We’ve been pretty good at making adjustments but our first halves have been pretty bad all year…yet we keep trying the same thing over and over.

Get real, they’re college athletes it’s more so we have zero killer instinct and never have under TJ. He is a great coach but he rarely makes adjustments and is stubbotn
Is he really a great coach if he rarely makes adjustments and is stubborn? That’s literally what coaching is.

I actually do think he’s a great coach but when you fall apart at this point of the season every year there’s a reason why.

I’m sure we’ll be told we are overreacting all week but just watch the games. This isn’t a top 5 team in the league right now.

TJ and this staff just got outcoached by Wes Miller. That’s embarrassing.

We’ve tried the same offensive approach for 5 straight games with god awful first half results yet we keep trying apparently. Why?
The trap kills us, it's predictable and teams with a heartbeat know what to do with it. We run zero off ball screens, it's just basic Spain action every time down, which is also really predictable.

Love TJs gladiator approach but at some point basketball is more than just effort. You’ve got to be able to handle the X’s and O’s and that’s where this staff really struggles.

I hope one of these years TJ brings in someone who can identify and exploit mismatches. Our offensive spacing is atrocious and we don’t run plays for our best players. JJ and MM are two of the most talented players we’ve ever had on offense and it’s a real headscratcher why we can’t scheme up more quality looks for them.

This is the 4th year out of 5 that the team has collapsed in conference season. Still time to turn around this year, but that is what it is.
Lets face it we only have to be good for 4 or 5 games before the conference season. Like most everybody we have 7 or 8 guaranteed wins. You have to play your A game every night (Houston Cougars excel at this) once conference play begins.

Yeah the trapping stuff rarely works against good teams and we switch on defense that make no sense. We’re constantly putting our bigs in positions to try and defend guards it’s horrible. This team also just lacks leadership as I keep harping on. I said how we responded against a horrible cincy team would tell us a lot about this team and we once again waltzed in, played careless and uninterested, turned it on for 5 min and then gave up. This team sucks and is so grossly overrated.

We basically waste a career day from Milan. Toure, Buchanan, Heise, and even Lipsey gave us nothing today. Turnovers, rebounding, and poor free throw shooting were big issues and defense intensity was really lacking. I may be wrong but I think we only got 3 points from the 5 spot and JJ got dominated by more athletic guys. Really disappointing.

At this point I’m convinced TJs style of basketball is simply unsustainable for an entire season.

Every single year we look incredible until January/February and we are mediocre from then on out. The boys look tired. I think the way we play just wears them out and there’s no way to keep it going.

Yup! This is our ceiling. Work our asses off to start hot, then get tired/injured and collapse. Meanwhile, Indiana football is about to win a title practicing less than anyone in football. But if we took that approach, we'd be mediocre all season at best anyway. Lose lose.

TJ said teams are throwing different things at them to start the game that were outside of their scout. Apparently only the other team is allowed to do that
That sounds like an excuse from TJ. I’m not saying teams don’t, but you have to be prepared for everything and adjust right on the dot.

3 seed, 2 seed, probably 3 seed at worst this year are the last 3 years, TJ is ******* terrible. How dare he lose 2 quad 1 road games mid-January.

It’s a really tough conference and you’ll lose almost any game you don’t play well in, particularly on the road. I think this team might not be the juggernaut we thought they were, but they’re still damn good. Just need to find a way to bounce back mentally and need to find ways to get our role players into the scoring column consistently to take open up things for our big three.
