MBB Struggles

Buchanan isn’t good, he misses point blank shots consistently. He lacks any sort of toughness either, consistently out of position or just turns it over. Asking him to score? Zero chance lol

Too bad Mason Williams isn’t available this year to help with shot creation and rebounding. I agree that Buchanon adds nothing right now. Can’t rebound, can’t finish at the rim, can’t make free throws. He is basically big Rob Energy his first season at Iowa State

Jefferson has been soft as ****. He needs to man up and finish at the rim. Be aggressive and own your man. He is just hoping for a foul call
The entire team needs to finish at the rim. Buchanan is usually doing that when he goes for the put back but on one drive I saw today he faded away from the rim and hoped for a prayer. Take it to the rim and get the foul or make the other team pay for trying to stop you.

We constantly hear how tough ISU practices are. Yet, our players don't look tough around the hoop. Maybe ISU needs to practice differently...

Our performances since the Iowa game have had me worried that we likely wouldn’t be able to maintain the necessary level of play to win the Big 12 regular season or get a #1 seed. Both those things are temporarily off the table until we can prove ourselves otherwise. It’s not rare that the eventual conference champion loses back to back games at some point, but we’ve done it early with a back-loaded conference schedule.

I think our bench guys need to play more in the blow out games to start the season. Get them floor time and get out starters rest for the grind. We keep our starts in until the last few minutes n huge blowout wins. It’s weird

There is no “temporarily.” classic Iowa State to lose the games that keep you neck and neck with the big boys then win like four straight against dog water in games that don’t move the needle at all

To be honest, that doesn’t seem all that bad for conference basketball. I think the problem is we want our standard to be conference champions and it just hasn’t been.
What doesn't help is we all get tricked into thinking this is a conference title contender. I think NCSOS being so poor should have been a bigger sign of things to come.

At Purdue was a fluke unfortunately, not the true ceiling we all hoped for

Here’s what’s annoying… Jake Brend says in the post game that “cinci is a bad team but they have talent.” Yah, exactly Jake they have TALENT. A lot of people don’t understand that these teams have WAY more NIL money than we do. They have more athletes, it’s pretty simple. We use our NIL on Jefferson, Momcilivich and Lipsey. We can’t buy anyone after that. As you are well aware our bench sucks. These other teams can buy as much talent as they want. Don’t look at the records look at what they have on their teams which are good basketball players.

And unfortunately he’s doing it to himself to some degree. Kick it out, reset, maybe a guard will give it back to you. I don’t get how using like 18 seconds to force an iso is any better than going iso for four, kicking it out, moving the ball around, or driving, or cutting, then working it back to Jefferson or Momcilovic and trying again. At least you’ve made the defense move around. Even in the NBA a guy has to have an automatic fadeaway to be effective in full-shot-clock iso

Kansas is up to 8th now on D and Cincinnati was 6th. If there's any sliver lining at all its we just played two of the best defenses in the country on the road, so maybe the offense will pick it up against lesser teams.

Theres zero chance we are beating Arizona or Houston though the way they're playing.

Been saying this for years on here along with many others. TJ just refuses to do it though, would rather run Jeffsrson and Lipsey 30+ against Grand View.

Just another tired team in January with no answers, we likely plateau from here and get steam rolled come March. I am fine with TJ but I have accepted reality, the patterns are established.

And yet, Cincinnati likely only wins a few more conference games.

This will be the best win they have this season, by far.
