Missouri is a better job right now. They are gonna be the favorite next year in the Big 12 (if Kansas does lose everyone), meanwhile Purdue is losing their two best players. Painter is a complete ****** though if he's gonna leave his alma mater for a lateral move. Teams can negative recruit the **** out of that.
Until someone knocks KU out of the top spot, they are the favorite. Self will put a good lineup out there and coach them into contention. I think Missouri is a good job, but for a guy like Painter its a downward move especially when considering his style of play is the complete opposite. This would be akin to RichRod taking over at Michigan for Lloyd. That big of a culture change is a tough thing. Also, good recruits lined up at Purdue over the next few years if they can be kept by the new coach if Painter leaves. I don't think its clear cut, but I'd lean towards Purdue abit.

Interesting read from Purdue, it seems like ISU isn't the only place where money is an issue:
Dear John Purdue Club Members:

Thanks for the outpouring of support for Matt Painter and for your concern for our Purdue men’s basketball program.

In an effort to allay many of your concerns and dispel much of the misinformation by “unnamed sourcesâ€￾, Athletics Director Morgan Burke has asked me to share with each of you that he is working diligently with President France Córdova and our Board of Trustees to ensure that Matt remains our head coach for many years to come.

Proactively they have made an investment in Matt that was communicated last evening, clearly reinforcing their continued commitment to him and to our championship program. They did not wait to counter anyone else’s offer. It is my hope that the words and actions of our President, our Board and Morgan will encourage Matt, Jerri and their family to remain with Purdue.

Personally, I have been overwhelmed with the number of e-mails pledging to join the John Purdue Club or increase support. Ironically, I believe we would not be in this situation had more than 11% of our current membership participated in the Mackey Challenge and more than 150 of our nearly 9,000 members recruited at least one new member. More of the Big Ten television revenues could have been allocated for compensation for the basketball coaching staff members and less toward the critical path of updating Mackey Arena.

As a self-supporting university auxiliary, we can spend only what we raise, so everyone’s participation will ensure that we retain Matt and provide championship-quality experiences for every single one of our Boilermaker student-athletes.

Thanks for your continued loyal support and passionate commitment….stay tuned!

You can't compare changing styles in football to basketball. It's much much easier in basketball. West Virginia went through this when Huggins took over for Beilein. Two completely different styles, but West Virginia was still successful. A good coach can bring his system in slowly while keeping some of the elements that worked under the previous coach.

With that said, I still think Purdue is the better job too.

Sure you can, to a certain degree. That's why I'm still saying its a close call. I'm not making it out to be something dabilitating like something Painter would not be able to overcome, but certainly if you came to Mizzou thinking you're playing 40 minutes of hell, and now your playing 40 minutes of boring that transition will take a little time.

But I thought the Big 10 schools were absolutely swimming in cash:biglaugh:

I for one hope Painter ends up at Mizzou - it would be a coup not only for Mizzou, but for the Big 12 establishing itself as the #2 basketball conference in the country (behind the Big East). Losing the head coach of the #2 ranked team in the Big 10, and stealing recruits from Indiana would send a warning nation-wide that, for all the money they have, perhaps the Big 10 isn't as powerful as it's perceived.

A coach leaving a university does not provide an accurate portrayal of an entire conference.

I completely agree, but perception is reality too. I'm sure there were alot of dumb fans out there that thought Creighton is now a better job because a guy left ISU for that place.

Ben Jacobson is in the mix for the job. If Mizzou doesn't land Painter it might be Ben.

Lon Kruger

Kruger is one hell of a coach. That would be a great hire for Oklahoma if they can make it happen.

I would have loved Kruger to come to Ames to replace McDermott - of course, the whole Hoiberg thing seems to be working out pretty well so far...

Kruger is a good coach but he's one of those guys who is always looking for his next job. I doubt he would have stayed in Ames too long.

Sporting News says Painter has accepted Mizzou job. I'm still shocked by this. He must have had a seriously bad relationship with the AD to leave his school.

Report: Matt Painter to coach Missouri Tigers, leave Purdue - NCAA Basketball - Sporting News

This might be true, but be careful. This report is still referring back to that same knucklehead at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He really doesn't have a clue. He said two days ago that Painter accepted on Monday. I wouldn't jump to a conclusion quite yet until something a little more concrete then Bernie Miklasz comes along.

Sporting News is just regurgitating what the St Louis dispatch is reporting...

The Indianapolis Star is saying he has not reached a decision yet... No decision yet from Matt Painter on whether to remain at Purdue | The Indianapolis Star | indystar.com
