Matt Campbell sounds off on NCAA

It's shocking that the SEC whines about something and the NCAA acts right away. If it was Iowa or Iowa State requesting something super simple (in Iowa's case a ruling on Drew Ott's eligibility) they take their sweet time. I hate the NCAA.

Reading the Notre Dame AD's comments from another article, I'd love to see an antitrust lawsuit come to fruition

Hasn't Iowa already received a ruling on Ott. Denied multiple times.

Answers the question of how the original camp plan came to fruition between Campbell and Harbaugh -- Toledo used to do similar camps with tOSU and UMich.

****** rule.

Random thought I just had: Could coaches partner with coaches from schools in other areas to work camps in their area? Could Campbell and a few assistants be a "guest coach" at a camp hosted by a JuCo or D3 school in an area say, in the middle of SEC "territory"? Advertised and promoted as "XYZ College Football Camp" and just happen to have guest coaches or observers from Iowa State, Michigan, Washington, etc?

Don't think so. Here's part of the NCAA ruling:

"Additionally, FBS coaches and noncoaching staff members with responsibilities specific to football may be employed only at their school’s camps or clinics. This rule change is effective immediately."

They're covering all their bases. Pretty ****** stuff for the student-athletes. But if anyone's interested, here's some NCAA contact info to voice thoughts:

Sure they can and then get crushed by the NCAA for rules violations.

Here's the email I just sent to the NCAA PR rep. I'm sure it'll rock their world.

Ms. Hosick,

I'd just like to congratulate you and the rest of the NCAA for sticking to your guns on the recent ruling that bans satellite camps for college football programs.

Like you, I agree that prospective student athletes who may reside in certain states and have limited financial resources shouldn't be able to be exposed and present their talents to schools outside of their immediate geographic location. Screw them. If a kid from Florida is really really interested in playing at Michigan but is dirt poor and could never in a million years afford a trip up north to attend Michigan's camp, so be it. Not our problem. Kid needs to suck it up and deal with the socioeconomic hand they've been dealt. Especially if it puts coaches in certain conferences at a competitive disadvantage. I mean, seriously. It's not like the NCAA should be expected to act in the best interest of its future student-athletes. Duh. If those future student-athletes can't afford the plane tickets, gas, hotels, food, camp registration fees, etc. that it takes to travel 1,000 miles to attend the camp of a school they're interested in, that's what they deserve. Should've picked parents in a higher tax bracket.

Again, kudos to you and the NCAA for putting your collective foot on the throat of the economically disadvantaged and teaching them a lesson in how today's world really works. Keep it up.

I am waiting for the letter from the NCAA about loss of scholarships at ISU because of UNC grades scandal.

Thanks. I wrote an e-mail. It was nice but basically said they are wrong. They will be sued, or P5 schools will get serious about dis-enfranchising themselves from the NCAA.

Imagine if ohio state, Notre dame, michigan, etc all said we'll have camps and screw the ncaa. So what.

As a non athlete - what do these camps actually accomplish?

I see this as a band going on tour vs a permanent show in Vegas.

Allows coaches to evaluate talent and give some pointers to developing kids. Allows kids to show their skills in hopes of getting an "in" with a school and maybe a future scholarship offer. Relationships form. Schools from the North may still never get the 5*, top 10 in the nation at their position kids being recruited by Alabama, Georgia, Texas, LSU, FSU, etc. But it exposes the lower rated (and possibly underrated) kids to programs willing to give them a full scholarship for school, and lets coaches find some of the "diamonds in the rough' who otherwise may not get D1 looks.
